Stats redesign
Stats redesign
I am unable to work on the actual mod for a couple of weeks so I'm doing some work on the website instead.
I was never content with how the stats layout worked out (which is one reason for so much stuff remaining blank) so I tried to tweak it a little. The Apothecary and Painboy pages can be the test articles for now.
If you care to take a look, I'd like feedback on how the layout works now in terms of readability and ease-of-use and if there are any problems with different browsers or mobile devices (the site is intended to be entirely mobile-friendly).
BTW: I recommend force-refreshing the pages if you've looked at the codex section before as you might have old CSS styling in your browser cache.

first: i like the graphs from dow2.info a lot. they're great for comparing damage.
second: our screens are bigger than 1024x768; make use of more space. i'd rather have to scroll on a netbook screen than have a shit ton of empty space on a large one. the current trend in tiny amounts of shit in the center pisses me off. what causes issues with phones is pictures, not text.

My graphs are not from dow2.info. It doesn't exist anymore.

The trend happened because the other 2.5 billion Internet users hate scrolling and won't bother reading long pages.
Cramming too much stuff on a wide page frankly makes it look crap and it suits the minimalist sort of look I want badly. I could use a liquid grid layout that uses more content columns when width is available, but 1) I dislike wide layouts and 2) I want to filter the content instead of spending time looking/scrolling around trying to spot the info I need.

What causes issues with phones (or everything really) is bad design, not pictures.
Re: Stats redesign
+1 for the minimalist designs.
as it is right now, i can't go to upgrade pages on many units, while being able to see weapons and so forth, is it because the pages are not finished or is it something to do with my browser (firefox 22)?
also, is it possible to make it clear which model is carrying which weapon if a squad is carrying multiple types of weapons?
otherwise, looks really good.

The tabs are still empty.

Yes, but I'm undecided if it's useful or just clutter... Basically if you're there looking for the numbers, you already know.

now that is mostly user preference. i hate pages that don't utilize the available space.
i would consider having every thing on one page more minimalist than having everything isolated into different tabs.
i was thinking of a layout sized to available space; i dislike horizontal scrolling as well.
the only thing my phone has serious issues with is >3kX3k pictures. poor design is a whole nother issue which effects everything.

Re: Stats redesign
Is the stat page still up for feedback and suggestions?
And is it being worked on at the moment? because at the moment only CSM, SM and GK have working stats sheets.
And orkz only have painboy working.

Re: Stats redesign
Question. Does the upkeep value accounts for the whole squad or per each model?

Re: Stats redesign
Units that suffered losses cost less upkeep, if thats what you're asking.
Re: Stats redesign
i mean http://www.dawnofwar.info/index.php?pag ... squad#cost
that 20.4 upkeep. Is that 20.4 req per model or for the whole squad?

Yes, my time has been spent on other things but we still want to get this filled out.
Re: Stats redesign
For the codex page I was wondering if it's possible to sort each unit, wargear, abilities and upgrades according to the tiers most preferably the same lineup as ingame instead of alphabetical. with a big white line separating them and on the white line the tier icon. This would help out finding out how each army scales and how and when to Tier up.
http://www.dawnofwar.info/index.php?pag ... ault_squad
If you could do the sergeant model stats for the other squads as well, some if not all may have the same stats like the assault squad but it helps clear out confusion.
For the starting gear of the squad when purchasing a sergeant or a suppression squad to if it's possible to indicate which model type gets which gear.
If the global of each commander could be put in their own tab which shows how much each global costs. And if that global happens to be a unit then give it a icon in the heroes main tab just like the terminator commander and let it link from the global tab inside the respective commander tab to that unit page.
And with the Terminator commander to make a little annotation on that page which says "can only be purchased trough Force commander" and possibly make that annotation into a link.
These could also be separated with lines saying, Global unit, Hero upgrade.
Don't know if this is viable with the commanders being able to gain more levels and page size, but to combine the stats and level tab together so it's easier to see how much hp gets added because the lvl 1 stats are nearly all on the stats tab.
And if you could make a legenda for each weapon type in the main codex page or off to the left or right side of the page being static while you scroll up and down to see all the wargears.
Which indicates which weapon type is best vs which armor type. ex.
Flame counters > infantry
suppression counters > infantry, heavy infantry, commander.
Melta counters > everything
results may vary per unit but a general indication would be very handy.
As a starting rookie player these general knowledge to know what counters what and to know which unit needs to be made or which upgrade to take to counter enemy tactics. Is one of the biggest hurdle for a starting player to really learn the game. Of course I will learn trough playing it but that will take allot of trail and error. But this basic knowledge is very crucial especially for a game with 7 races (tau coming soon) and 19 Commanders and hours upon having to test and trial what counters what for each individual army could scare of players less dedicated then me into stop playing this mod.
I would like to thank you taking the time into reading this, I really love this mod with all the new units and still being balanced enough to not make single units or armies op compared to retail. And I know making a mod takes allot of time and doing community management along that is allot of work but I hope you find the time, hopefully before Tau, to add the other factions in the codex.
I'm a very numbers and lore person and being able to see the basic numbers helps allot and perhaps other players who think some things are overpowered.
And then can be put into place by pointing to a specific stat which balances the unit/army composition out.
And also let's the players discuss in the forums for hero, units and army tactics and let them understand how difficult it is to balance things out with army match ups and tactics. (I learned the hard way that imperial guard nearly always has to rush tier II)
And also let's me and others theory craft yet unmade factions for Elite mod and help a little since it will learn how everything balances a little bit better.
Love the mod guys, hope this feedback was useful and see you on the battlefield heretic.

Re: Stats redesign
I tweaked the weapon stats thingy a little. The weapon family pages and damage type pages now link to all related items as you can see from the examples.
