New Banshee Model

Postby David-CZ » Tue 19 Nov, 2013 11:51 am

A new model as promised a long time ago.

I made multiple variants of texture quality. Just pick the one you want and place and merge the 'Data' folder into 'elite_beta' in the game folder. I recommend using the high quality one since it has all the details clearly visible but isn't too performance demanding.

Did they get a haircut?

Also, any other colour than Chaos Black would make it a bit easier to make out details^^

They did. And sorry about the colors. I just took a shot of what I had preset.

Good models.

But, for the love of the Dark Gods, next time put the files into a .rar or .zip file! XD

EDIT: Herpy Derpy Derp. Thanks, Indrid. ;)

They are in a .rar. Google Drive will automatically show you the contents of small archives, just hit File > Download in the top left to grab the .rar.

I wanted to ask but forgot to post the question. Should make the inner part of the helmet black (primary color slot) or should I keep it as it is on the common armor?

The helmets ( especially the first ) look really nice, but I really prefer the bushier vanilla hairstyle.

I prefer your head to what we have now, it looks more feminine. Would you ever considering redoing the Farseer? Not wanting to sound pig-ish, but specifically the chest area. Look at the Banshee, then the Farseer, then back at the Banshee. Yeah. I think she looks a bit to plain for a Farseer, and could do with something so make her more interesting.

I take it I should make the other helmets use the secondary color slot for the mask then?

Regarding the hair, I wanted to use a new technique of making low-poly hair that I learnt. Unfortunately DOW only supports boolean transparency so I couldn't really pull it off with the texture. And once the model was done I didn't really feel like reworking all the hair. On the other hand it doesn't look half that bad when in game. Try it if you haven't done so already.

I know what you mean :) However I'd really look for a change in the Banshees' model. I guess that's a matter of taste :3

Though I'm not saying I won't get to the Farseer at some point. I wanted to work on her model since I finished the Reapers but making an entire model from scratch is taking ages and I can't handle even the stuff I have now not to mention starting a work on a new model. Right now I have the helmet for the GK libby half done, started working on the shees' model, have a completely new model for the FC in about a 3rd of the process. Then I wanted to get back to rework the TM's MCB to Stalker Bolter and I haven't even started working on the Flash Gitz' Blasta. And I already spend about 8 hours a day modelling in average. Seriously, where did my life go?

I know this abit OT - But do you think you could possibly make GK Stormtroopers more visually accurate towards their new portrait? It should mostly just be a new helmet requirement.

There are many things I'd rather see in the game prior to a sexy'ed up farseer. It's not like there is a lack of cheesecake in videogames and DoW2 is the only place we can get it.

i like the flatseer. i wouldn't mind more elaborate robes but her breasts are fine.

as for helmet colours, change the scheme to biel-tan and i'll tell you.

Awesome work! Im just happy that eldar are getting some love... dont misunderstand me, SM and GK bling is awesome and cool as well but usually the other races tend to be left behind when it comes to new stuff :)

FS does lack detail and meaningful rank unlocks. Not requesting anything, though.

I think so too. That's why I'd be careful to make nothing less then something even better. The cover of 'Path of The Seer' book by Gav Thorpe would be my inspiration. But as for now, it's more of a wish than a plan.

I will eventually get to them as well.

Not a great Eldar expert, but AFAIK Eldar don't like too much ornamentation to their armours.

I'll see what I can do about the Banshee armor to make it a bit fancier but still simplistic enough.

Funny picture, but what do those numbers mean?

Glad you like it.

I make the models in 3DS MAX and the textures in Photoshop (naturally). I tried using ZBrush for the final details such as scratches and hair but I found it really hard to operate. Plus my computer can't really handle working with over 4 000 000 polygons.

The first helmet is the nicest. Def keep the secondary colour like you did in the first picture for the later ones.

Could the terminator librarian's head be changed as well?

Just so there is a helmet to cover his face just like his unit icon picture. :)

A request has already been made in the 'visual assets' thread and I already have the model almost half way done. It might take a while though since I'm working on shees at the same time.
