DOW II Graphics Problems

Postby DOW_Luke » Sat 07 Dec, 2013 8:18 pm

I have downloaded DOW II and have also got the Elite Mod and downloaded all the parts that are needed. However I have loaded up the game and the graphics dont seem to be loading for example when I am choosing my hero I no longer can see the picture of the hero that I am choosing. Also when I am using Grey Knights I am also have trouble with the pictures of the units loading. I have included pictures for you to see my problems. Can anybody help me sort this out?

This is normal for DoW2 Elite and happened because of the addition of the 4th SM commander (which is the GK race). Nothing you can do about it.

Nothing wrong on your end.

This is an unfortunatly side effect of the "4th commander hack" / the addtion of the Grey Knight Brother Captain.

Also when I am using Grey Knights I am also have trouble with the pictures of the units loading. I have included pictures for you to see my problems.

Not sure though what you mean here.

On that note.... I may have a fix for this soon, as a by-product of some modding work I'm doing.

As a follow-up to this discussion, I've been working hard on this stuff over the last month.

Got slowed down by contracting a fun case of the Shingles, but I'm just about back to full health now, and I am closing in on having a complete understanding of the Scaleform U.I. aspects in DoW2, and how the Flash components and DoW2 interact.

In layman's terms = I'll be providing a fix for this annoying graphical bug shortly!

Question for those in the know:

Would you like me to...

a) Just redo the 4th commander button, for selecting the Grey Knights, as it is now?

Or

b) Should I instead add a complete new race, as GKs or Deamonhunters or whatever, and remove the 4th commander button for now?

I was leaning towards option b, logically, but hey... it doesn't hurt to ask!

@Riku - I guess so, but my girlfriend might not approve!

If you can add another race button that would make you beyond god-like.

Ask Caeltos/Lulgrim, but I'd imagine the second would be ideal. But getting a 4th comm working correctly might also be useful for the future.

No worries, will do, cheers Indrid. The 4th commander option isn't really too difficult to implement correctly, so I can put that back in at anytime we wish. Except a little more... elegantly ;)

Option B is good, but having both wouldn't hurt, lol.

A little update:

Have looked into the files of the current Elite build, and after a little tinkering, I've discovered a couple of things.

Firstly, when Promythyus created the 4th commander hack, he really butchered the game files in his effort to get it working. Not to take anything away from his pioneering work, as he did the best he could at the time, but the result of this is the current elite files are in a pretty huge mess in regards to the U.I. To repair the current files would require me to re-write the .GFx bytecode (almost completely) manually, which would be a massive job, and take alot of time, as well as having to redo a metic shit-ton of attributes. So obviously, this isn't really feasible for me to do.

This brings me to my second point...

It is much easier for me to start from scratch with vanilla Retribution files, using a fresh set of mod files, which is the avenue I have decided to take. Obviously this means starting from the beginning again, which will take a little longer, but will make things far easier in the long run.

I was intending to post some screenshots by now, but due to this setback, they will be a little while longer. So keep tuned in for those sometime over the next couple of days! Thats all for now.

I must say I don't understand at all. The UI hack is just a couple of files dropped on our mod. I can go and delete them right now and the mod will play as usual except you can't select Brother-Captain. It has absolutely nothing to do with the actual structure of the mod (which is exactly the same as retail plus their own folders for GK where appropriate, purely for organization purposes).

I was refering to the GFx file, rather then the attributes, in that regard. My bad, I didn't make that very clear. However, one of the reasons the current U.I. is somewhat buggy, is due to some incorrect attribute files which relate to the swiff file.

Also, remember, I'm adding a new race, rather then reproducing the original hack. There are actually alot more attributes associated with this, then the original 4th commander mod, which is probably one of the reasons why no-one has been able to mod in a new race correctly up to this point.

I just studied that condition in school  Ouch bro... must have really hurt. If your doc didn't already tell you, there is a vaccine available (I think it prevents relapses). Something to consider. glad you're felling better. :)

Alright, I'm back! So after quite a delay (due to weird bugs and crashes constantly plauging me, eventually ran them down to being thanks to one of my editing tools ), and having to leave town for a bit, I have some screenshots of the new U.I! I'll post them in a new thread of my own making now though, so head over there for the visuals.
