why doesn't your friend do 2xguardsmen + sent -> catachan + med pack? seems like a very common LG build...
Thanks, I'll run that by him.
I know he typically doesn't like to go Sentinal because he has to baby it so much, and it doesn't recieve the benefits from the LG's weapon buffs, but if this could help him deal with SM more effectively he would defiantly be all over that lol.

It will help greatly vs asm/melee stuff

Re: Beginner/New Players
Just had a quick couple of questions concerning the LA.
Does his Stalk global give the LA a damage buff as well as reveal enemy commanders?
I thought I heard that mentioned in a cast I was watching.
Also, does any of the weapon wargear alter the LA's melee damage type (heavy melee, power melee, ect.)?
I thought it did in vanilla, not sure if it had been changed.
And lastly, does the Spore Mine global call in, does it reinforce like the HT and RA's call ins do?
I was playing the other night and I don't think I saw the reinforcement icon appear, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

Re: Beginner/New Players
Stalk increases damage and speed if im right.
All of his weapons are power melee.(maybe feeder tendrils are not but i think they are)
Spore mine call in doesn't reinforce.

Re: Beginner/New Players
Not really kvek...
Yes

Thanks for the answers.
Do you know what Toxin Miasma gives the LA (melee damage-wise)?
Also (sorry, noob question here) is power melee good against vehicles, and SHI?
My standard weapon wargear for the LA is Toxin Miasma, so do I need to change that?
Feeder Tendrils is nice but I was interested to find out what the more experienced players go for in wargear load outs.
I want to be able to contribute with the LA in tier 2 - 3 but I am starting to think that he doesn't scale very well, compared to the HT. Late game, should I only be using the LA for capping duty, or is there a way to have him in the thick of it, that I am just missing?

Servant of CTan wrote:Do you know what Toxin Miasma gives the LA (melee damage-wise)?
63.75 dps, each attack adds 10 piercing damage over 2 seconds. Targets have their speed and damage reduced by 25% for 5 seconds.
Servant of CTan wrote:Also (sorry, noob question here) is power melee good against vehicles, and SHI?
Yes, very much so vs SHI - not rly vs vehicles (basically no)
Feeder Tendrils is one of the best melee upgrades in T1 and still great in T2. Get the Lone Hunter in T2 and he can beat any other hero 1v1 when it's active. Deadly jump is great aswell. Remember to use infiltration lots and flesh hook to either a) grab a retreater as it has full damage on retreat or b) pull a high-value model so you can kill it.
Blahwuid and Fear are probs the best 1v1 nid players and they main lictor

Re: Beginner/New Players
Sorry, I meant what damage type does Toxin Miasma give the LA (heavy melee, power melee, ect.)?
I didn't know that it did slight DoT though, I thought it was only damage reduction.
But from where I stand (from my noobie level) it seems all the other weapon upgrades for the LA are not worth it compared to the Feeder Tendrils; or am I completely off base here?
Hmm.. Lone Hunter, I've never gotten it before. So its really that good? I guess it wouldn't really help me since I play 2 vs 2 and 3 vs 3 mostly, and there would be too many allies around; unless the restriction only applies to nearby allied Tyranids? (I mostly play with my IG buddy.
Deadly jump is awesome, I love the disruption I can cause, plus seeing a Lictor flying at you would be pretty crazy. Normally I get Deadly Jump, Pheremones, and Toxic Miasma, but I'm thinking of going Feeder Tendrils, and then going Lone Hunter (if it can activate near non-Tyranid allies).
Pheremones does help out early game, but I either forget to use it as the game progresses or I have no energy to use it, so maybe swapping it out for Lone Hunter come Tier 2 might be better.

Re: Beginner/New Players
Toxin Miasma gives regular melee dmg type to LA. Feeder Tendrils are the standard upgrade but the other upgrades are not bad. The Lone Hunter can be decent in team games but it shines in 1v1. Menacing Visage is good late game as you can force an instant retreat on strong units like Nobz, Seer Council etc. Pheromones are pretty good as even your allies can reinforce from them atm (at least i think so at least). As far as armor upgrades go deadly jump is the most popular.

Re: Beginner/New Players
Hey were would I go, and how would I go about uploading a replay for a cast? Just had an epic (IMO) 3 vs 3 game, and some players suggested I upload it for consideration.
Any tips on what need to do would be most helpful; who knows; it might be good enough to make it into an Indrid, Radically Dreaming, or Red Rupee cast lol.

Re: Beginner/New Players
gamereplays dow2 section. send any of them a PM or bring it up in the chat room when they're there. no guarantees though.
Re: Beginner/New Players
I think they usually say their email address in their casts and ask to send replays there.

Re: Beginner/New Players
This forum also has a replays sub-forum and you can attach the .rec file in your forum post. If you already have an account on GR, though, go with that.

Okay I have an account with Gamereplays.org and I have uploaded my replay, do I need to make a separate post about it in the Replays section of the forums here?
P.S. here is the link to the replay.

If you want people to comment your match on this forum, make a thread in the "Replays" section.
Btw, I c that you flagged your game as 3.19.1 which means retail Retribution - if you are playing Elite, you should pick "Elite 2.1" on GR.

Watched the replay. I think you should try the 2x csm build in 3v3s 2x heretics didn't work out very well. 2x csm build is just a lot easier. In t2 the dread was a good choice but i think you should have gone for the tzeencht launcher and pm squad vs the Razor. Full auto was a pain in ass for you. I don't know what you could have done. The resource float was kinda bad but it happends.
Re: Beginner/New Players
Now against apo 2x csm might not be the best build especially in T1. They had no asm and a big tact blob so: 2xtic, csm, havoc, ac, ac or gl or optionally: tic, csm, havoc, raptor, ac or: 2xtic, csm, raptor and possibly some acs or gls for tics would've probably made them get asm or lose the top. And you need to use worship in early engagements and also later on in the game. It gives your csm nice dmg resistance and cloaks your sorc so it's easier to hit with doombolts. Also cloaks havocs for nice ambushes and helps melee to get in as well as vehicles etc. getting out.
And once in T2 your priority should usually be a T2 unit or two, then upgrades. Dread was a good purchase. You should've followed up with MoT for it and maybe some Bloodletters. Blastmaster would've been a great purchase also and
Now I also would maybe not have bought a GUO in T3 and instead gotten LRP since you had no ranged av after losing that tdread and the enemy had 2 predators that can kite a GUO forever since you had no snare whatsoever. The GUO seemed to work well enough though. Also you had a waaaayyyy to big resource float in T3 try to avoid that.
You used globals pretty nicely to save the dread a couple of times and had pretty decent wargear choices for sorc. Didn't see you use rift though but subju paid out nicely.

Re: Beginner/New Players
Thanks for the tips and pointers, I was impressed with this game, as I usually end up locked into my base with no units. This was the first game I played that felt like (sorta) an actual game and not an exercise in losing lol.

Np man. And everyone gets stomped around quite a lot in the beginning.

Re: Beginner/New Players
Never make the phobos, a laspredator is enough to rape it, with 2 it would have been just a way to gift your opponent 800 req and 200 power, atleast the guo itself will soak up all of the damage while you deal with the rest, next time try to get a plague marine squad in addition to either a Tpred or Tdred, anything that gets snared against hard AV is dead.

Re: Beginner/New Players
Anyone think a new thread as a list of "bronze" level players is a good idea? This would be a list of names you could recognize in chat and invite to a game

Re: Beginner/New Players
Yeah Land Raper Pooboss is pretty decent but you have to be really careful with that thing. Getting some pm would've been a good idea though as Ace pointed out.

Re: Beginner/New Players
Or just 2x preds. Harder to micro but they can be very useful just keep them vanilla and if you need some "heavy" av just upgrade them to tzeench

The phobos is really bad, 50% because of the unit itself and 50% because how mechanics works in this game.
there is only ONE scenario wherethe phobos is a superior choice to the guo and that's when there are 2 Venom cannon carnifex and 1 doom on the field, but even in this build 2predators are a better choice if you can micro them.
1)The phobos is supposed to focus fire a target, it's so big that most of the time only 1 twinlinked las cannon will fire, and the weapon AI doesn't help at all, if you start moving the phobos it will suffer of the targetting problem that every vehicles has, with the exception that the 2 twinlinked cannons will start firing at random targets in opposite directon.
2)It's slow, if you keep it at max range the enemy needs just to pull back abit to be safe, as such the phobos cannot chase at all.
3)It's an LR and has such it gets struck everywhere because of how pathing works in this game, making it extremely vulnerable with 2000hp.
In all of this big walkers like the guo and the avatar can counter way more units by their own and they are way more mobile than big vehicles, and since chaos is not IG they will take a while to repair especially with just 1 heretic while you still repair the guo on the field via worship or you can bring it back to the base for healing.
You can basicly hit & run on the flank of the LR with a laspred and you will eventually take it down easily.

Re: Beginner/New Players
I have taken down LRP or two with 2xTpreds but 2xTpred need more micro, popcap and they cost waaayyy more... And LRP will really rape stuff at range. Though I do agree that GUO is generally the more safe bet.

To be honest i don't like Phobos but it's a great unit even with 2000K hp and a "bad" pathing. It has the awesome Dirge Caster ability. I think people just dont use it beacause they don't know how to use it. And dont forget you can worship Phobos with Tzeench/Khorne
