someone correct me if im wrong but

the performance of a sternguard squad actually is at the level of a level 4 Tac squad ... so you can say that the sternguard levels your tacs immediately to level 4 with the possibility to level up even more


level 4 Tacs got 1930 hp

Sternguard have to get to level 4 themselves to surpass that.

The Tactical Sergeant has 10 more melee skill, (and does more melee damage) than the Sternguard Sergeant..

And ofcourse Tac damage doesnt drop as fast as Sternguards' since they carry a special weapon.

If your'e just going to put an unleveled Sternguard Squad agains a leveled Tac Squad, the Veterans will be pounded into the dust, if you ask me. They are not going to outshoot, outmelee or outtank them.

tactical sarge has 60 melee skill, just like normal tac models

The Wiki claims the ELITE Sergeant has melee skill 70.

I'd check the codex too, but I cant find his entry there.

Speaking of the Sternguard sergeant, can we give him his sword back and give his bolt pistol the special bolter ammunition? As some people have mentioned, Sternguard are actually worse in melee than normal tactical space marines, due to the lack of a sergeant who is strong in close combat.

But the SG sarge doesn't require power to buy back when he dies.

Yeah.. so? What's your point? The SG are less combat effective in specialised roles and in melee. Their reinforce cost goes up as well. etc etc.

They really should not lose their exp when 'sidegrading'. It makes no sense at all.

OK so hypothetically Lulgrim, is there a model for a Sternguard Sergeant with a bolt Pistol and Chainsword?

And if there is, in theory could Sternguard be given a similar style of upgrade to KCSM/TCSM, so they do not teleport out?

I don't agree with letting SG keep their levels atm - it's a new squad and it's not exactly a tactical choice if you genbashed and then want instantly even better DoT rounds - but I'm wondering if what we have makes it a possibility in future.

Weapons are not part of the model.
We could give him a LasCannon if we wanted. Weapon Loadout isnt really the problem here.

Yes just change the weapons GG.

As for the upgrades, yes of course I could make them change armor & gear like TCSM for example. They wouldn't get the new unit name & portrait then, though.
