Lag in 3v3?

Postby DarkGod » Thu 20 Mar, 2014 6:15 pm

Hey everyone

Not been on for over a month, so I have a lot of catching up to do  Needless to say however, that whenever I play a 3v3, whether in retail or Elite, I lag uncontrollably. My PC is not the best, a dual core that can run Crysis 1 on medium but cannot run Crysis 2 for example. In DOW 2 I use 1024x768 pixel ration and all possible graphics settings are at low, and voice quality is at low and number of voices are 32 etc.

This did not happen before. It is very sudden. I used to run Windows XP but now I use Windows 8.1. I have installed and reinstalled countless times. I am never downloading anything and it is only my desktop pc which uses the internet connection. 1v1 and 2v2 never have any problems.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated

I think what hes trying to say, and you possibly misunderstood, is that windows 7 and 8 uses more processing power from your pc. So that means less of it is left to process your game and the inbound and outbound data while being online. The only way to fix this is to get a better pc or go back to windows XP. Assuming processing power is the problem. I have a 50mbs down and 15mbs up. I don't ever have issues but I have played with you a bunch and you do consistently lag.

Unfortunately I lag in every 3v3 game without fail. Like I said other game modes are fine. Unfortunately I cannot downgrade to Windows XP, and I cannot afford a new pc, so my DOW 2 experience is severely limited. Thanks for the replies

Do you mean like screen lag where your frames per second drop a lot? Or when you play in 3v3 you start getting lots of timeout notifications (fps loss can do this too, what I'm trying to figure out is it network or video related)

Does it lag once the game gets going? The whole thing? Certain maps? etc

Try to make sure it's not an internet connection issue before jumping to conclusions. Try loading up a 3v3 replay, and see if your computer can handle that without lagging.

Maybe your PC is just running hot, when was the last time you cleaned it?

I think I might be able to help you here since I also have 4 gb of RAM, the only diference being that i have windows 7 enterprise. As it has been pointed out probably your lag comes from your lack of RAM and the fact that you are using a OS that consumes way wore than windows XP. The solutions that could work for you are the following.

- Make a particion on your hard drive and install windows XP there so when you start windows you can choose either boot w8 or xp, that way you can chose between those 2 OS and use XP for when you want to play since it will take less ram to keep runing all windows services and therefore you will have more avaible.

- Open task manager and disable all the non essencial proceses for gaming like for example your web browser or even the windows explorer proces. Its easy to see which one of those consumes more since you can sort them by their memory usage.

-Download software in order to help you manage your ram usage like for example advanced system care free that has a tool that allows you to clean some ram as well as having other utilities that will help your PC like defraging files or cleaning up the register, aditionally you can also use game booster which i believe its from the same creators

-You can dedicate some of your free HD space for RAM pourposes if you have w7 (and i supose w8) altough this RAM it will be FAAAAAR worst that the one that comes from your installed one since reading from the HD is slower than the RAM but nevertheless if you are short of RAM by small amount perhaps it will do the trick. Aditionally you can do the same function with an USB memory and the ready boost function of windows.

The thing that might be limiting your PC could be also your graphics card or your procesor since i have 4 GB of RAM too and mine is DDR2 so its basically utter shit and i run DOWII at medium/high at about 30-41 FPS so would be interesting also too see if really ram is the problem. You can easily check that by playing a 3vs3 vs the computer and checking on the task manager your CPU/RAM usage.

Finally if the CPU or GPU(graphics card) is slowing you down you could always overclock them , i have my PC slightly overclocked and if you are not too greedy with it you can get a significant improvement.

Well I have 4 gigs of memory and I run Dawn of Luls (and a bunch of newer games) with everything maxed at 1920x1200 on Luldows 7 and I reeeaally doubt RAM is the issue here... Come on the game is from 2009 isn't it a little unlikely it would require >4 gigawatts of memory under any circumstances?

Okay guys. My specs are as follows: dual core processor 2.8 ghz. 4GB RAM and a normal ATI RADEON HD card, not the best as I can recall.

My internet download speed is around 300 kb/s. Which is very shit but such are the perks of living in the UK. The problem is I never lagged before, and this is driving me crazy. Loading replays are fine, and I lag in the actual game.

In the lobby I have a ping of around 80-140. But as soon as the game starts, for me anyway, everyone's ping jumps up to around 300-600, and everyone else lags, but others tell me my ping is around 400 and everyone else is fine.

Last Stand, 1v1, 2v2, and replays all work fine. Only 3v3s...

Well looking at your specs seems that the problem is not your PC. If it is the internet conection there is not much you can do about it , nevertheless you can try a couple of things and see if it works out for you.

-Try to access your ISP web page and see if they have the service of allowing you to change the "type of conection" you have with them. For example in my case I can choose between "Fastpath" (Lower ping but lowed downloading speed), Upload (High ping low download but high upload speed) and Download . I can change whenever i want my "type of conection" by accesing my router and i can do that 3 times a day . I think not all ISP have that function but perhaps yours have it so check it on their page.

-Use some software to optimize your conection like 4 example "latency optimizer", that sometimes works charm for some people and with a bit of luck you can find there a suficient improvement to allow you to play some 3vs3. I that software about 3 years ago when I used a USB router to acces internet and it worked very well for me.

EDIT: Aditionally if you want to make shure if your PC can run DOWII without problems you can check it out on this page

Systems Requirements Lab tells me that my specs pass the Recommended Setup, but my OS was not released at the time and so they are unsure about the support.

I am going to overclock my graphics card, and try to fix my connection. Thanks Freeman.

Also, does overclocking a graphics card pose any dangers?

Well don't bother overclocking your hardware as it can obviously run the shit (3v3 replays)!!!

I assume the problem is your connection -- if your download is at that level then what might the upload be like? The game is PvP so you connect to all other players which obviously demands more traffic with 5 other players than just 1...

Other than frying the card?
