Barrels worth shooting at

I've been wondering whether it'd be a good idea if the barrels dealt more damage when exploding. It seems they were initially intended to influance the fights but as it is now they don't really do anything.

Well, they really dealt an ungodly amount of damage back in the early days, if I remember correctly.

I think the reason why it was changed was because they did horrible things to vehicles which ofcourse would just crush them.

If you rallied a fresh vehicle from your base it would arrive at mid with easily a fith of its hp allready gone, because it hit all these barrels on the way.

That said, I guess it could be changed in a way that explosve barrels no longer damage vehicles, but still deal good damage to infantry.

IMHO It could be interesting give barrels a bit more protagonism. They could turn into a strategical resource, like line of sight or cover.

At the moment does almost no damage when they explode. Maybe increase the damage they do + a little AOE weapon_knockback effect?

The problem is there are not too much maps with barrels, so maybe it would be neccessary modify that maps without barrels and add them.

I think a Knockback would be too much, but what about a small Damage-over-time-AoE? To force enemies to move.

I agree a damage to vehicles wouldn't work at all. Setting the place on fire instead of simply exploding sound pretty good though.

I always hated the barrels doing dmg. Hurting your crush commanders and vehicles.

Since you can't simply toggle whether a unit walks over or around them they should generally do damage only if targeted if any at all. Getting damaged for allowing the game to use it's own pathfinding would be stupid.

I wouldn't use the word unnoticeable. It can matter a lot in a game.

I guess I just never paid enough attention to it. Anyhow, I don't think they should do damage when crushed. But then again, I don't know if the game recognizes the difference.

I've lost very low hp vehicles to barrels while trying to retreat them back to base...

Barrels can take half an hormagaunt squad hp away if they move next to HT when he's crushing them. So I won't say little either.
