Noticed something when I was hearing some voice-lines on youtube, which I think we could even utilize for existing units, this more or less specifically for the Artillery Spotters;
Of course - is it possible to add in voice-lines for certain specific abilities?
Either way, here's the clip & the audio I'm referring to.

Re: Adding in voice-lines for existing units
Would it be easier to take those lines and make them into -uh- "ability soundeffects"?
Since working with the voice lines is supposed to be so complicated?

Re: Adding in voice-lines for existing units
I'm still waiting for GK voice-lines of the Inquisition Daemonhunt mod. Too bad I have no idea of modding.

Based on some older threads on this board it looks like Tomas did some work on this, but I guess it didn't get sorted out then? Would be nice to get some more info if there ever was a conclusion.

Didn't that have to do with inserting lines that players were recording themselves? Like new lines for Chaos Raptors and Terminators. These are already in the game aren't they? And I think you can add assign certain lines to certain abilities. I never heard orks say "Grit your teeth" but the Painboy says that whenever you use the git juice ability. And currently, when Spotters use any of their abilities they say "For the glory of Cadia" so it would be nice for more appropriate lines like the ones Cael found.
Re: Adding in voice-lines for existing units
You're absolutely right, I should work on my reading comprehension. Adding existing voices to specific abilities is really easy to do. I added the mentioned voice lines to the spotter squads t1 mortar and smoke shell as a test, changes here: http://dow.cache.nu/spotter_voice_test.zip
Re: Adding in voice-lines for existing units
I'm kinda surprised that wasn't looked into earlier. This game has LOADS of unused sound samples. The LG has some referencing other IG troops like Vostroyans and I think Mordians and many squads have lines for when they wipe a squad that was garrisoned. If I understand correctly, adding more of them into the game makes longer loads though, but I think that might freshen things up if a few unused sound files are loaded if nothing else to have a few new things to listen to.
Re: Adding in voice-lines for existing units
Don't think the extra load time/mem usage is much of a concern these days, unless there's some limit on what the engine can handle.
For anyone interested in listening to the voice lines they can be extracted from GameAssets\Locale\English\english_00x_speech.sga with Corsix's sga reader.
The sound files are in the fmod format so will require a special player. I found this one that did the job but there might be better alternatives, https://code.google.com/p/musicplayerex/downloads/list.

I can't remember where, but I remember finding a program called Mafia player or mafia reader to listen to most of them I think it was on the ign forums somewhere.

The sounds and speech data loaded regards if they are used or not. My work was looking at the BCS and FSB files to inject new speech into the containers. I know how to add new speech, that is custom speech not already loaded into the game, but I do not really have the time at the moment. Work has to be done to encode the mp3/wav into FSB format and for software writtern to be writtern to inject the new speech into the containers.
