Heyho guys,
does splash damage effect the single entity that has already been hit by the attack? or in other words, does a space dread do 150 dmg per swing to the model that got hit, or 190?
this one would really interest me, cause i'm not sure. of course if it did, it would change the calculations you do about splash damage melee stuff in 1v1 fights. i feel like i've seen it come into play...
anyone got a clue?

Re: Splash damage
My gut feeling is that it does. I remember in retail when the thunder hammer was doing splash and it would 1 shot stuff with a sort of delayed effect from the splash.
Now I have no idea if that is actually true or if my eyes were playing tricks on me.
Hopefully the stats people jump into this one rather quickly lol.

Re: Splash damage
It depends on the weapon. Some weapons, like the GUO's plague sword, have an on-hit AoE effect that affects even the unit it hits, although the plague sword's effect only affects infantry.
Weapons like the Chaos Dread's autocannon have a minimum splash damage radius of .25, so units within that radius aren't affected. Which is displayed on its weapon page in the Codex. http://www.dawnofwar.info/elite/weapon. ... readnought
I've only looked at a few weapons that have these, but in the end, it all depends on the inner radius of the splash effect. Any specific weapon you were wondering about?
BTW, it looks like the dread does 40 AoE to infantry in radius 4, so it does 190, but not to non-infantry units. hakon, correct me if I'm wrong about any of this
There's actually a .1 second delay on most weapons' on-hit effects, so this is definitely possible

Excellent! I'm not crazy and my gut instinct was correct.

This proves the latter, but not necessarily the former.

Re: Splash damage
Well this is actually weird caz, the plague sword (of the GUO) doesn't really do splash in a circle. but in a line that is horizontal to the GUO. Meaning units on the side of the GUO's target get hit, but not units behind them.
Same function with the avatar's blade I am sure.

It does splash in a radius 4 (180 degrees) in front of the target the GUO hits, not a line. Same for the Avatar's sword. Same for the Dreadnought's fist, actually.

Re: Splash damage
What are you talking about Windu? I go by the codex these days (it's awesome!). But yea as you said it differs a lot depending on ability so unless Arbit (I think his name was) can supply us with yet more brilliant reports on the matter, the best way if you really want to find out is to test it yourself. Lulgrim's lab mod is a good start.
Well said.

Exactly
Mostly melee weapons are the one with extra damage for splash. Range weapons have the AoE attached to the shot where as melee weapons have the "on hit" extra damage in an small area
If you look carefully you'll see that whenever a dread hits you see the hp bar go down twice not once, so yeah, most melee units with splash do weapon damage + aoe splash
