the new IG
Re: the new IG
Modeling is a very technical skill with a steep learning curve. It's not something you can jump into in an afternoon, just as you can't with being a chemist, artist, or marksman. Takes time and effort.

Re: the new IG
scripts were updated this month to include 2014; should work with everything up to that point.

If IG is getting that it means they're moving forward with the lore by "banishing" the laws that prevented IG to have access to astartes gear (like power armor, rhinos, land raiders). That's a giant bummer for SM tho, since the lore says marines dont get IG stuff because they are built for normal sized humans so marines couldnt fit in a baneblade even if they had them
And yeah, it does look like a money truck lol
Seeing as SM have the most advanced gear in the Imperium (obviously excluding the Mechanicum, Inquisition, etc.), it would take another STC to move their lore forward. Also, power armor doesn't work on IG because they can't use it. SM have these implants to interface with power armor that IG, being normal humans, obviously don't have. Also, SM CAN fit into IG vehicles; in 5th edition, the Space Wolves had these Leman Russ Exterminators.

There is plenty of Power- and even Terminator Armour for humans.

Adepta Sororitas are normal humans too, and they use power armors.

Re: the new IG
Oh, btw, Space Marines had their own Bane Blade variant. The Fell Blade.
And like mentioned, the Space Wolves have Leman Russ tanks.
I think the reason why Space Marines dont deploy this kind of (super) heavy armour anymore is not because they cant, but because they arent allowed to.
After the Horus Heresy they had to disarm / let go of alot their heavier weaponry.

Re: the new IG
I suspect the Space Marines don't have anything heavier than a Land Raider because they are actually no longer the main offensive force of the Imperium. Back then during the Great Crusade, the Space Marines did most of the work and the human soldiers (what we call the Imperial Guard now) acted as garrisons.
Now, the Imperial Guard do the most of the fighting and Space Marines are regarded as elite strike forces. Given their new role, they require mobility, which heavy tanks and Guard artillery (most notably Basilisks) do not have. Also, if I'm not wrong, they actually had more Space Marines during the Great Crusade than now.

yup; every chapter is limited to 1k marines. it's not enforced though, at least with the black templars.

Are these Ogryns wearing tank tracks as loin cloth?
___
I dont get that weird brass work on the brest plates. Doesnt look imperial at all, more chaos-y imho. Otherwhise decent figures I guess.

seem to be a luxuriant tank tracks.
Re: the new IG
I really hate their new name. It doesn't exactly roll out the tongue as easy as Imperial Guard.
Re: the new IG
Not sure if they are replacing IG. Seems like an additional Codex with more options? Like super-Elite human forces as opposed to the "fodder" of the IG. Will need to see the codex and see if it has Guardsmen etc in it.

Re: the new IG
Astra Militarum seems a lot easier to pronunce to me. : /
Anyway IG needed a latin name and a more baroque looking.
They where the only faction that seems old in design and style, while all the other got serious and thematics upgrades in the years.

Re: the new IG
Well, since SM, SoB and the like already have both "low" (ex.: Space marines) and "high" (ex.: Adeptus Astartes) names, it's not exactly a non sequitur for IG to get the same treatment, I think. If that's the case ofc.
Speaking of lore holding SM lists back, I disagree. SM don't need IG mech to develop, in fact, from meta point of view, why would we want to homogenize imperial factions? SM generally roll with light drop mech design (even if they generally don't deep strike it in actual tabletop), while IG is associated with heavy frontline stuff, and that's ok.
SM is already known for expanding their arsenal without using IG knockoffs or retooling existing SM metal bawxes (Caestus, Sicaran, other "relic" mech), I don't see any problem here. As long as designers don't get too lazy to actually make new vehicles, 40k will always find a way to justify these new designs and why they weren't present/remembered as present at different points of 40k history.
