Help a new guy

Postby smurfORnot » Mon 07 Apr, 2014 7:55 pm

Hello guys. I bought dow2 to play with my friend, mostly 2 of us vs others. Actually, we bought it because we saw this mod. We did play it ages ago when it was in beta f2p. But Now after few games under our belt, we are really struggling. We are pretty much getting owned fast. And then soon enough you have dred/wraithlord in your base which simply walks over you -.-

Could you please give us some advices on which races are best to play and which ones we should avoid as we are beginners. Also Best - easiest heroes and items to buy for those heroes.
Which units are considered good and best to use, and maybe some unit build strat.

Tnx in advance!

Have you watched Indrid Casts or Maestro Casts on youtube? Good places to start.

Go with what you like and learn it, that's the best way to start.

Yea, I am watching youtube podcasts, looks easy enough until you try to play like that, lol. In those podcast a lot of time you see one side becoming dominant and not pushing, while when we played, they pushed us in the beginning, then soon later, capped and destroyed our points and then you have something nasty in you base what you can't counter cuz you don't have energy.

We tried SM,eldar,GK and IG. Eldar seem kinda week in T3, but are very good in the beginning. SM are kinda good all round, but I hate scouts, they seem just so weak and die to a breez. GK kinda lack AT or it just seems to me so?

Avoid
Eldar & Imperial Guards
Neutral
Space Marine, Grey Knights and Tyranids
Good Start
Chaos & Orks

For Chaos, go Chaos Lord or Plague Marine
For Ork, go Warboss or Kommando Nob
Generally, your commander gear depends on the situation

Basic Chaos Build in 2v2
Chaos Space Marine -> Chaos Space Marine -> Havocs/Noise Marines -> T2
OR
Chaos Space Marine -> Heretics -> Chaos Space Marine -> T2

These two build can usually help you tackle most problems IMO during T1.

Safest T2 purchase for Chaos is Plague Marines due to their durabilty, slow aura effect and snaring missile launcher and heal on death

Sadly, I'm not an Ork player so I cant help you there.

smurf add me on steam and your friend too and ill play a game or two with ya when I can. I am no pro but more like a vet.

Click on my avatar and my steam profile is there.

Few things for you to consider and i'm not sure you know about them.

1. Join the steam chat group. http://steamcommunity.com/groups/DoW2EliteMod

2. Join the beginner chat group http://steamcommunity.com/groups/DoW2_E ... _Beginners

3. expect to almost always play someone more experienced. The reasons for this are varied but I can say with almost certainty that 50-70% of the current, consistently-online players base are decent to pro players. I would say 30% ish are new. They do exist though. Many times during the week I see players advertising new, newish, beginner games. Do the same to avoid getting stomped.

I live PST. I have been coming online after work at 5pm and I consistently see about 2-3 games up of varying types. Not to mention the private NON viewable games that are also happening. (as DarkRiku has pointed out). I hope to see you online brotha and add me on steam friends list!!!! (check my profile or anyone elses profile if they added it you should be able to add them to friends too) and ill play a friendly team or 1v1 game with ya to keep you motivated and teach you what I can.

Tnx, I will add you ;)

Strange thing happened yesterday. I lowered my settings from high/mid to low/mid so I don't lag if there is a lot of stuff on map. After that, next time I entered game, I was still in menu options when whole PC shut down after 2-3 minutes. I tried again, whole PC shuts down. Then I put settings back on high/med and game works normally. Really weird why would lower settings 'kill' my PC.

Did this happen when you tested it out on the same specific maps? Cause some Jungle maps have a lot of entity hence more PC intensive

I didn't even enter game,I was still in basic menu :multiplayer/options/armypainter etc. and whole PC shut down. With higher details all is fine, except game can lag if there is lot of stuff and explosions on screen
