Dire Avengers

Postby Valerius » Sat 19 Apr, 2014 5:27 am

Alright. So Dire Avengers replacing guardians is cool as a cosmetic thing. But why not add Dire Avengers as, say, a tier 2 unit, or an upgrade to Guardians? It's really strange and disconcerting to have a warlock leading a Dire Avenger unit, and I think guardians should still be in. The Exarch would have lots of different options, and they would get plasma grenades as well as better accuracy, range, and damage.

This need to go to general discussion yo. Not Balance.

Eldar already has enough units. Plus, why would you pass up say Dark Reapers just for a better version of guardians? I think it fine as it is. If they where wanting to keep guardians they would have made it so once extra equipment was purchased, the guardian model was swapped for the dire avenger model. But that probably would have been a bit buggy so it wasn't implemented.

Because guardians wouldn't do the same ranged damage as tactical marines, it also isn't a warlock who leads them it's a dire avenger exarch. Unfortunately it uses warlock animations though and still somehow buffs wraithguard :P

Just no need anyway, eldar have dark rapers now anyway and FDs. Avengers (as a unique unit, better than the original GU) just don't really have a purpose with warp spiders and reapers being things.
Lets make Ordo Malleus great again!

Plus lore-wise Guardians are the last line of defense when their home is attacked. Dire Avangers are actual soldiers while Guardians are citizens with gear a weapons.

Guardians are still in the game. They're in as a Guardian weapon team, which is, if anything, a more accurate portrayal of how Guardians are actually deployed.

Very true. If anything, the Dire Avenger Exarc could have a new ability instead of just taking the former Warlock`s one.
I can think of a "Blade Storm" ability that increases the squad's rate of fire for a time.

Hate to sounds mean, but that sounds useless. Embolden should stay, helps them in t2 on wards.

Embolden via Warlock upgrade already improves the Squad's damage by 25% for 12 seconds

His grievance only seemed to be aimed towards Embolden which should be able to increase DA DPS by improving it via increase Rate of Fire. I just decided that highlighting the fact that Embolden actually improves range damage by 25% is sufficient to convince him and so I decided to leave that part out and leave a link to the DA Codex
