ideas for Prime Tyranid Hero
ideas for Prime Tyranid Hero
Lastly, my ideas for a 4th tyranid commander hero. I was thinking about a Broodlord, but that one should be a character upgrade for genestealers I think.
I think of him like a lighter version of a Hive Tirant, with less tank and command options and more combat and sinaptic options.
Animations: he could start using the animations of a Tyrant Warrior. He comes equiped with close combat claws.
Stats: he should start being just a stronger version of a warrior. He'd be slower than Ravener and wouldn't have his burrow ability, nor the Lictor's infiltration, but he'd be more resistant than them, yet not as big and slow target as tirant, just in between, a balanced option.
Initial Abilities:
- Sinapse: the Prime Tyranid has basic sinapse, like the Hive Tirant.
Weapon Options:
T1- Deathspitter: ranged weapon that shoots rapid volleys. Good against infantry and makes the Prime Tyranid's sinapse increase friendly Warriors ranged attack speed.
T2- Rending Claws: enhanced close combat claws that deal good damage against all infantry and makes the Prime Tyranid's sinapse increase friendly Warriors melee attack speed.
T3- Bone Swords (or maybe Bone Sword and Living Whip): Replaces the Prime Tyrant melee weapons for a pair of Bone Swords (or maybe a bone sword and a living whip) yet maybe could use the same animations. Gives the Tyrant Prime melee resistance and is good against all.
Armor Options:
T1- Laced Quitine: increases the warrior's health and gives him a passive charge leap.
T2- Bio-conductive carapace: gives higher health and gives the "Bio-electric attack", a short ranged targeted burst of electricity that deals area damage and ignores cover, good against garrison.
T3- Reactive exosqueleton: gives higher health and the "Regenerative Swarm" ability, that is charged as the Prime Tyranid takes damage and activates a health regeneration enhancement for a time when activated.
Accesory Options:
T1- Scythe Tail: it gives the "Tail Whiplash" ability, that knocks back all surrounding enemies.
T2- Norn Crown: it increases the Prime Tyrant sinapse ranges.
T3- Posionous Tongue: it gives the "Toxic Bite" ability, a melee targeted attack that stuns any non-vehicle enemy and deals on going venom damage for a time.

I don't want to discourage you or sound like an asshole,
but to quote Ken Levine(creator of the Bioshock series): "ideas are fucking worthless"
(I apologize for his swearing). The point of the quote is that you can have the best ideas in the world but they mean nothing if you cannot implement them.
Don't stop writing these because most of them are very entertaining to read, but nothing more.
(Again, please don't take this the wrong way)

Re: ideas for Prime Tyranid Hero
Idk about this idea. I set one of mt hero creations to Caeltos for review (since i am making a 4th sm commander for my mod) and to see if it makes sense and is viable. The first thing he mentioned was the hero has to have a defined role and has to be viable in all tiers. If it doesnt then the design fails.
Some of these ideas dont work together. Like this Hero doesnt seem he can excel at one given thing other than melee builds. And a easier Hero creation to work with would be Warrior Alpha. Heros are VERY hard to make. I haven't worked on my Command Squads design day in and day out but I started him a while back (about a year) and is still in need of lots of work. The Hero need to makes sense. That is HUGE!
He said more but it was about my hero. So no need to put that here.

You don't have to (I dont think you can) make the new character perfect without trying it, that's what updates and "2.0" versions are about. YOu can implement your design, and see if its balanced, what is to be changed, removed and so on.
These hero ideas I had are less than proyects, just ideas that can sound good or bad, they are just intended to be interesting start points if possible.
Re: ideas for Prime Tyranid Hero
Pretty sure the community wouldn't appreciate the introduction of poorly designed heroes. furthermore why implement something, remove it and then re-implement it several times if you could give it better thought pre-implementation and save yourself all the hassle.
Lets make Ordo Malleus great again!

Yeah, not fair. I f IG get the Commissar Baneblade then the obvious couter is an Alpha Spore Mine. Christ guys, know your meta before posting silly things like "Tyranid Prime"

Don't worry Aertes, people will listen eventually. People are just trolling, consider making a new post with revised stats for each hero. This happened to me on my first Beginners Tournamnet post, it devolved into talking about Greek Easter and chocolate eggs.

Greek Easter is srz bizniz.
@Tyranid Hero
I feel like there's some sentiment that Nids haven't gotten a whole lot in Elite, which I kind of agree with. Idk, it just feels like their roster is pretty complete as it is and if there were going to be additions then yeah, it would probably happen at the commander level.

Not got much? Endless swarm, Warrior leaders at some point, DOOM OF MALAN'TAI (thought that one was quite important) besides loads of balance changes.
I know why you say this, because most people see a new gun for the Techmarine and think "but Nids don't get that." Think about what Nids have been given, then you will see why they aren't getting any more.

Re: ideas for Prime Tyranid Hero
Interesting take on the Tyranid Prime. His niche is that he's a super-warrior who buffs other warrior broods. This is another hero idea that probably belongs in the build UI as an optional mini-hero character rather than a full-fledged Commander. The reason for this is that he's got a fairly narrow focus and while he'd be right at home in an army that consisted primarily of rending claw warriors and gaunts, he doesn't really have much application outside of that. His synapse for things like Carnifexes and gaunts isn't different than regular warrior synapse, so other than having bone swords and/or an extra BS or VC there isn't much to set him apart from warriors other than his higher hp and dmg.
I am using a Tyranid Prime design in my own mod that is a mini-hero with a retinue. He buffs warriors and shrikes with more melee skill, accuracy and dmg, but I just couldn't justiy making him the 4th commander because other than that, he doesn't really do much. If you wanted something truly different for the 4th hero slot for Tyranids, I'd recommend a unique monstrous creature like the Parasite of Mortex, or even a Tervigon. It's hard to find another melee tank/synapse creature that wouldn't simply be overshadowed by the Hive Tyrant.

Re: ideas for Prime Tyranid Hero
Thanks for the comments, GG_Codex.
I limited myself to the existing animations and models. A Tervigon would be a great 4th tyranid commander but would require a completely new and different model (or a heavily modified Carnifex model) that I wanted to avoid for my ideas.
I thought about a Tyranid Prime or a Broodlord because they would be easy to implement using existing warrior and genestealer models and animations as base.

Fun thing is that some niche you'd expect Tervigon to have is kinda codered by RA atm, I think.

RA? is that Ravener Alpha? are you sure you know what a Tervigon is?.

Bleh, my bad, got it mixed up with trygon.

They are probably thinking of a Trygon.
Don't think you can really expect a monstrous creature to be a commander choice though, Tervigon would be more suited to another T3 option. Can't really see a place for it in the meta there, since it births out Termagants which would be pretty pointless.

But we already have one: the Hive Tyrant is one of the most dangerous monstrous creatures in the boardgame. Making a commander Tervigon would just be a matter of handling the stats wisely, making him sturdier yet less effective in combat than a Tyrant and so on, but there still is the problem of the model.
Re: ideas for Prime Tyranid Hero
Well yes, Hive Tyrants are monstrous creatures technically, but I was referring more to physical scale. Tervigons are huge, seeing as they are living incubators of other creatures.
Relic used some artistic license with the Hive Tyrant and Swarmlord (which would be the same size in tabletop) but it doesn't look out of place. Scaling down a Tervigon so that it didn't look ridiculous being beaten up by Banshees in the first engagement or have pathing issues early would be a bit of a stretch IMO.

Re: ideas for Prime Tyranid Hero
Speaking of the Hive Tyrant, wonder if it were possible to make him grow when leveling up.
I understand why they decided to scale him down a bit, but once you buy some wargear for him he almost becomes a walker/monstrous creature anyway.
Think it would be cool if a High level Tyrant would tower over a low level one.
You know, not quite Swarm Lord sized, but noticeable bigger than on lvl 1.

Re: ideas for Prime Tyranid Hero
Is it even possible to code a unit to 'grow up' as he levels using DoW2 engine? Sounds a bit hard if not impossible

Re: ideas for Prime Tyranid Hero
If it can be done, it should be done.
