Ranked Weekends

Postby Tex » Tue 06 May, 2014 3:10 pm

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone was interested in putting a pool of people together on the weekends so we can get some more consistent access to ranked games. It has been pretty patchy lately, and I would hate for such a delicious stats/ranking system to go stale.

Sounds good, do what you will. I have started ranking games now, so when I get get the script from Lulgrim I can be off doing some these (once the tournament backlog has been cleared).

Maybe you could post some of these games here as part of your ranked weekends thing. Just a suggestion, I do not want to break the whole system.
The internal battery has run dry, the game can now be played. However, clock based events will no longer occur.

I don't really think ranked games should be casted by default, but having more of them would put out a larger pool of games from which to cast.

This is my last week of school till fall so I'd be happy to play some ranked games on the weekend now!

I'd actually be pretty down for streaming some ranked 1v1's when my schedule frees up in the next few weeks. It'd be as much a learning experience for me (and everyone else) to see some good 1v1 high level play as well as getting in more streaming time myself.

If people want to set something like this up on weekends and would like it streamed, I'd be down for helping out with this.

Ranked 1v1 is not synonymous with high level play. Just 'sayin.

It would be great if some less experienced players consistently played ranked too just so the leaderboards were more fleshed out.

Its not synonymous - you're correct. I only say that for the 2nd point you brought up. Less experienced players don't necessarily play 1v1 on a consistent basis (if at all), and those who player regularly are those who seem to be some of the higher level players in the community. This may be biased however as I am mainly basing this on the irregular 1v1 casts and some of the latter matches in the MRTs. But again, that may be selective bias on my part tbh.

Probably not everything must be streamed (obviously), but don't forget to save some replays if anything interested happens :)

Torpid is right, just have a look a the latest ranked games list and you may see a pattern. It would be so good if we could get others to play ranked as names like Dark Riku and Noisy just keep popping up on that list. I notice that after the second beginners tournament Crewfinity started playing a lot of ranked, but that is still only one newish player. And Vocaloid I don't think you are being biased, I think it is just that those games are the most entertaining to watch. If you could stream these particular games then maybe you could make ranked more interesting for those who might not play 1v1 at the moment. I have myself been playing 1v1 a lot more with one of my friends, so I think the system just needs some light shone on it.

The ranked games are only for bragging rights in a game that doesn't offer a sizeable reward of money or a career :D, not that Im complaining, I actually play them for that reason, Im just saying that there is no reason for newer players to play them, the same happens in retail btw, people play the ranked games instead of customs just because the system does everything for them (chooses opponent, map, standard 500 vp games etc).

Here it's quite an effort aside from the well known people that play the mod and post on the forum constatly to meet up and play ranked games, let alone for new players that don't know about this function and that would need to go through the process of registering and then find opponents possibly of the same skill and then post the replays here.

A good point, but then I don't think that is too difficult. I did't mean "new" players, it was more "beginners" I was referring to, who will probably have friends of similar skill level. That said, it is an idea and I do not expect everyone who is a beginner to suddenly play ranked just because Vocaloid streams a ranked game.

My weekend schedule is pretty random but if I'm around, I'm down to stream or co-cast with Vocaloid or whatever. Any excuse to be able to observe some nice 1v1s.

I think games coming from more or less equally skilled players without pressure is what weekend gaming is all about.
