Dawn of War 1
So this is quite interesting and opens up for speculation, all of the DoW1 games have been patched with a 24mb or so patch that removes gamespy and integrates the multiplayer with steam, and this is all right.
What's of interesting is the fact that the main logo has been changed from THQ to SEGA in the opening sequence before the cinematic, I don't know how common of an occurence this is in the industry to acquire a gaming studio and then slap your own logo on a 10 years old title published by someone else, no im not taking this in a negative way, actually, and this is pure speculation but it looks like SEGA might be interested in picking up the DoW series.

It removed lan, for reasons I don't know, but now gamespy is out and the online is fully integrated with steam.

So is possible to search and play multiplayer games? Manually or with matchmaking?

I dunno I guess matchmaking works now, but it's just a guess.
Bad news is that the non-steam version seems to not be integrated with steam, or atleast it appears so with my retail version of soulstorm, which is still unpatched, Im gonna see if I find the steam patch somewhere but Im doubtful.

Have you just tried registering the CD key at steam? Maybe it'll add the steam version to your library?

Tried and doesn't work

Re: Dawn of War 1
Bit of a shame because I have friends with non steam version who i cannot play lan with anymore, though the upside is I can play more easily over steam. :/
The internal battery has run dry, the game can now be played. However, clock based events will no longer occur.

This is an issue that has been reported directly to Relic quite recently. Soulstorm CD keys should work fine, but the keys for the base game and the other expansions do not, funnily enough.
Apparently they're working on it. They're pretty much going full-Steam mode now, and they seem to want the old crowd to join them.

Good to hear, I always liked relic, they seem to actually care about their games, like when they switched CoH1 to steam when their own servers were going down, and they did it for free aswell.

Re: Dawn of War 1
I hear ya. As devs they seem like good people, although they're occasionally hamstrung by their publisher's policies - I suspect that's what happened with LAN, doesn't make sense for Relic to bin old and useful functionalities like that.
Haven't seen it mentioned here, but it's also been established that the new patch enables true widescreen support for dark crusade. As for what else has changed, we're still looking to get full patch details from Relic.

Re: Dawn of War 1
I noticed this as well. Just bought all the DoW1 titles on steam last weekend with the sale, and noticed the SEGA logo at the start. I have hope for a DoW3!

Re: Dawn of War 1
if there was anything coming with regards to dow3 it would be at this year's E3. unlikely but possible
Re: Dawn of War 1
Relic will not be at E3.
The list of games that will be shown at E3 is available.
Dawn of War 3 is probably due for maybe 2016, and that's a wild guess at best. Considering they're shipping out WF in June 24th, and then we'll either have another expansion, or they're working on a new project.
My guess is that they've already got people working on the new project for quite some time, to showcase something later this year, or early-next year with an announcement, with gameplay mid-2015. They probably didn't devote their entire team on Western Front, since it won't even have a campaign. That means that writers and other misc. people are working on something else.
Considering some updates on the Dawn of War fronts gives me the impression they're still in the rights to keep producing Dawn of War content for the future, and they're probably stirring in the pot on what to make.

Well there are occasions of surprise games being announced but if relic is not there as a company...news of dow3 will not be happening at E3.

i'm certain that SEGA will however be there, at the very most we'd see a teaser trailer which doesn't require the devs to be at the event itself. as far as i'm aware the only time the devs need to actually be there is when their game is actually playable. Still holding out some hope, just not very much

Re: Dawn of War 1
Great news imho, symbolizes interest in the 40k franchise from SEGA at the very least.
Also, does that mean no more Games for Windows Life for vanilla/Chaos Rising?

Re: Dawn of War 1
Meant to post this for a while, just had time.
Apparently there's also a patch coming for DOW2 and Chaos Rising to get rid of GFWL and Gamespy there: http://www.polygon.com/2014/5/29/576253 ... ultiplayer
Not sure if that means future patches for Retribution or some kind of continued support or whatever, probably shouldn't get too enthusiastic. Hopefully any patches they release won't fuck up Elite MOD.

Re: Dawn of War 1
I don't think they will patch retri, there is no reason to, the thing I would like them to do is a clean wipe of the leaderboards if they have to touch something.
For the rest, like you said they are removing GFWL nothing that has to do with retri, so elite mod compatibility/retri will be left untouched.
