New theme

Postby Lulgrim » Tue 27 May, 2014 10:28 pm

As you may have noticed, the default theme just changed. This should work better than the Art Deluxe one, and I can tweak the appearance as we go. Feel free to leave feedback in this thread.

Sure, just can we get rid of the monochrome in some way? The grey/white is painful :?

Too much space between everything. : (

I need to scroll to see the post in every index.
I like the idea, but it need to be less... empty. More compact.

Not gonna lie, not too big of a fan so far.

Feels exhausting to navigate and look at.

Going to miss the old one, but I can't deny this is a much cleaner way of doing things.

If possible add the feature that shows you which threads you read and which ones not. I'm kinda lost without it.

Also, despite the new fancy look we still have the same old crappy looking smilies :(

That feature will be in every theme, it's just not as obvious with this one - the icon will have a bold outline on threads with unread posts.

You can also see what threads you have posted in by the little red * in the top left of the icon.

Its very minimalist, very Windows 8 style.... Sorry for the hard work, but I don't like it. :?

Still, a most much clear icon for unread posts would be needed IMHO.

I personally think the old one is way more aesthetically pleasing. While the new one is easier to navigate, the old one is more pleasant to navigate.

Is there a chance to change to white backdrop into something a bit darker?

Maybe its just me / my monitor, but it feels super bright.

Steel Grey-ish would be nice along with a somewhat lighter Text Box to compensate the change in background colour I would think :p

Testing a grey patterned background with partial transparency in the center, some of the details are off now but let's see if this seems worth developing.

If anyone has 40K related patterns I'll take it.

In other news I updated the smileys, they don't seem to apply for old posts though. :D :) ;) :( :o

there's a little tiny red page next to the title if you haven't read everything. it'll take you to the oldest one you haven't read.

Just a few I came up with. I'll definitely need some help with the design.

I hope it's clear which one each represents.

Yeah. It's not my favorite tool but in this case it's the best one to use imo.

EDIT:
I just noticed the new background. Looks cool. Not very Warhammer-like but very stylish.

MORE EDITING:
I'm not really happy about these three. Drawing ork faces sucks.

Colorized variants.

[The extension png has been deactivated and can no longer be displayed.]

:) :|
:P :3 :(

They don't necessarily need to be colorized. They'll just be easier to distinguish once reduced to the final size.

The last ork head is a variant of , obviously. But I like the plague marine version better, so I'll have to rework the ork at some point. I'm not sure which colors to use on the SM heads. Need some feedback on that. I also noticed we're missing :3 smiley which I at first thought to be :?. Hope it's not going to be a problem.

They look pretty detailed, can they remain readable at 16x16 or so?

In other news parts of this theme's design make it a bit PITA to customize, I was looking at alternatives. "Charon" would use Bootstrap like the main site with vector icons and Font Awesome. However it's not free so maybe opinions before I try?

Some are easier to see than others. They'll probably need a few adjustments. But first we need to figure out how the rest of the smilies will look, Otherwise we won't use them anyway.

Regardinge the theme, I personally prefer the bootstrap not following me and I really don't like the scrolling effect. Other than that it looks good, but not worth putting money into it imo.

If by "Bootstrap" you mean the menu bar select header type 2 from the preview menu. The scrolling script can be removed.
