As I was going through the codex it appeared to me that purgation squads have the melee resist trait.
This seems weird to me since comparable units don't have this trait in other races (setup teams in general or even noise marines). Even though they should get owned in melee like other squads of this type I can see why they could have it in the first place since they are a control unit that sucks (no zone suppression). However when they are upgraded to psycannon I don't see why they should retain this trait.
Long story short, my question is why do they have it ?

						Purgation melee resistance
Re: Purgation melee resistance
Space Marines and theyr Chaos counterpart use to be melee resistance to represent their superior combat skills. in fact, Noise marines not being melee resistance is what's weird, they have higher melee attack speed lore wise.

IIRC, they have the melee resistance aura cause of how they are almost twice the cost of your typical ranged unit.
As for noise marines, they have cacophany to help them deal with melee units hence why they don't have the melee resistance aura I think.
And please don't use lore to justify/argue about the statistics in-game -.-

Are you talking about tacs and csm ? Havocs and devs don't have the melee resist though and they are not much cheaper than purgs.

Yes please.
I guess the question is pretty much aimed at Caeltos as for why he chose to give them this trait.
The other implied question is should they retain it ?

Re: Purgation melee resistance
Purgs have it because they can only really deal with 1 or 2 melee squads at the same at best. Often only 1. They have low hp so if they didn't have it any flanking melee would easily kill them. Suppression teams don't have it because they shut down entire armies not just 1 melee squad. Noise marines don't have it because they shut down ranged units and are meant to be countered by melee all the while being more mobile than suppression teams. Purgs should keep it.

I didn't justify or argued anything. Its weird having a marine without melee resistance when its used to represent its superior skills and i can do nothing to change that.
Noise marines are superior to the normal Chaos Space Marine. If the game represents that with the Cacophony, i don't mind.

That was my first guess and it makes sense but I think they should lose the melee resist when they upgrade to psycannons. They are not a control unit at all then but a straight up ranged dps unit. They have almost as much hp as vanilla csm after all and they have a normal range (increasable) to keep them safe.
Re: Purgation melee resistance
Lore wise, even GK purgators are deadlier melee fighters than SM tactical marines, they can increase their strength enormously with their psychic powers.
Having the same melee resistance is the least they could have to half-represent this.

Re: Purgation melee resistance
The question is not "Why do Purgation have melee resist?"
The real question is "Do Purgation overperform?" And right now they do not.
Any comparisons between them and tacs/csm or devs/havocs is not a valid comparison.
