I use the chaos lord a lot as hes a great hero can tank and cause disruption etc dont need to tell u guys lol. However i feel that the blood maul which was a weapon i often used against nid's and melee builds is not cost effective due to the increase in cost that it revived a while ago and also the fact lighting claws outshine the war-gear
It currently costs the same as lighting claws 150 req and 50 power. I feel this is simple not right as lighting claws are much more useful for a number of reasons such as in combination with his other war-gear choices which i will list now.
Due to the blood maul slow attack animation using the harness of rage and the dark halo combo means that u get very little energy returned to the cl which is why people will pretty much get the combi flamer and always lighting claws as the cl attacks quicker. Seeing as the sweeping doom ability costs energy as does kill the weak this combo cant work well. The same can be said with the icon of khorne with the blood maul slow attack speed with a healing war-gear choice is not a good return on the purchase.
I rarely see the blood maul used in game and on replays now due to this cost. the damage and attack of LC is simply much better for the cl. Not to say u cant make the blood maul work i sometimes use the blood maul with let the galaxy burn and demonic visage but seeing as the damage from lighting claws in more effective against power Armour the blood maul cant function in the same way.
I feel the lowing the cost of the blood maul to: 150 req and 35 power or changing it 2 180 req 30 power or 200 req 35 power.
Adding more special attacks to the blood maul may also have it used more maybe allowing in to be like the thunder hammer?combi is just too solid v. light armor and claws v. heavy. maul fills no role. the may issue i have is the lack of synergy with the every war-gear of the chaos lord. hopefully this can be looked so i can start slamming things into the dirt

LC are 200 50 but I agree with you. It costs to much power for what it does. 35-40 is enough imo.

The 5s stun is pretty amazing for controlling termies, nobz etc.

Agree its half price of LC like the GK Helbard Atm . LC equally expensive as Power fist of FC,The CC disruption is somewhat weaker then GK daemon hammer doing 360 full-degree spin ,More like a 180? Maybe could increase its Melee skill or smething , it can't changed to a rocking Thunder hammer

maul needs 1 hit to kill a scout or a ST model, claws need 2 hits. Maul is 150 damage every 1.5 seconds, claws is 100 damage every 1 second.

How the blood maul is better than the lightning claws:
1). the ability of the blood maul is 360 with a larger radius than the destructive strike, easier to use, stuns and has higher knockback. This makes the ability far better at countering melee when you have a ranged-based army, or for countering units that cannot be suppressed or knocked over (thunderhammer BC FC/termies w/e).
2). The blood maul attacks slower than the lightning claws while having the same dps vs LI. The LC are a fast attacking weapon. Because when a unit is kiting you only get to hit them once every few seconds and that the cooldown after a melee attack kicks in whether you're in melee combat or not, this means that slower hitting melee weapons end up doing a higher dps (much much higher) to moving targets. This means the blood maul bleeds models more than the lightning claws and that's huge on a straight-forward hero who just runs at stuff and smacks them. The fact that it does normal melee means you ought to be using it offensively vs weaker things anyway and that means... more model losses!
They're the two reasons to get the blood maul instead of the LC. Like you say yourself the armour of the inferno and the visage complement this weapon perfectly. LTGB itself is very strong at countering melee units, which the blood maul does too with it's abiliy and then the visage is great as the blood maul CL is clearly meant to be with the rest of his army - unlike the icon of khorne/LC CL who is a really annoying capping unit when going around alongside a heretic squad. Since you're blobbing the BM CL with your main army you'll like use him in a big engagement which makes the daemonic visage more valuable than the IoK.

I get claws explicitly for the bubbleshield/harness of rage combo. Otherwise the Baseball Bat.
It is in particular better at countering heroes despite lower dps to them(?), since it has a huge ass stun for disabling Lv10 heroes and the like that's ready to single handedly turn the engagement. Against Terminators and Nobs this is brilliant, as it has the two Nob counters (stun and kb) so makes fantastic counter-initiation against Frenzy. Terminators well do I have to elaborate..any way to immobilise them can be turned into a deathtrap.

Sounds good raffa i like to use combi flamer to get xp easy and then if i need to fight melee units get claws. will give the baseball bat a second chance, may even try it in a 1v1

May give it a try in 1v1 ? You're saying that you didn't use it in 1v1 and made this thread? Please do some research in a normal-game before making these threads
on the other hand, getting combi flamer for exp is wrong, you want it so you can bleed the enemy while having a nice ranged source of damage

bleed=xp same sort of thing tbh and have used it in 1v1s mainly to squash nid's and melee builds will try it to achieve more
