Persistent, or permanent, chat bug. Need help!

First things first, Hey guys!

I've played Elite mod for some time now, and let me start by saying that I love it. I'm a hardcore Warhammer 40k fan - like most people here - and I absolutley love it. Kudos to you guys!
Second, I've never been an active member of the forums, mostly because I played Warhammer 40k Dawn of War on and off. So I'm not that old in the elite mod community. I'm planing to change this

Now to the real problem, I've had for some time now this bug chat. You know, the one where you can't see what your allies write, no one can see what you write and all you can do is ping. Normally restarting the game works, however in my case it dosen't. Neither restarting, reinstalling the game or steam works. I'm not the most technical of persons so I figured that perhaps someone of you have a solution, because frankly it's getting frustrating not being able to discuss tactics with my fellow loyalists or condemn the occasional heretic.

To be completely honest I'd totally forgott about that. I'm going to try it right now, gosh I feel a tiny tad silly... like Telia customer support. Anyway thanks again hopefully it'll work!

don't worry about it. i give it a 50% chance of fixing the issue. it's easy to do though. if that doesn't fix it then you may have .ucs file problems as those seem to contain the text. i know that codex and elite have problems with out of range errors in tooltips. don't know about other mods though.

Sad to say it didn't work. Still won't work. I'm sorry to be a bother, but you woulden't mind (If you know that is) telling me how to check the .ucs file and fix it? Problem is, I tried starting the retail version of Dawn of War II - Retribution aswell, same problem there. Don't know if that helps.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dawn of war ii - retribution\GameAssets\Locale\English
You should have the standard "DOW2" one and the "Elite" one in there.

yeah. there aren't any others in the folder are there?

also, what language do you play the game in? i don't think it would cause the problem you've described but it will cause problems with tooltips if localization files are missing.

Game's in English. But I think the problem is solved. Don't really ask me how, but I tried to verify the game cache again, and firied the game up. Suddenly people could see me writing. I also opend up the .usc files in notepad. Not sure if that "regristrated" them or something.
Anyway, thanks for all the help, really really grateful for it!

np. i suppose it's theoretically possible that there was some issue with permissions but it's still an odd problem.
