Them Chosen Plagues , first impressions

Postby saltychipmunk » Mon 23 Jun, 2014 2:25 pm

I can appreciate what the intent was for this unit, a chunky melee unit that can tie stuff up and draw fire.

They definitely do take a beating , however I after using them a few times i cant really see myself using them much.
I should also say i use raptors in my build.

The problems i saw with them is that while they are tanky the fact they are so slow makes it difficult to get my opponents to actually shoot at them. On many occasions I and the people i have played flat out ignore the chosen plagues, face roll the rest of the chaos army .. then go back to shooting the plagues.

its kind of like the powerfist plague champion, hes at his best behind an army of tcsm using his ability to reduce range damage taken.

They are cool to be sure , but for people who already have a melee unit going into t2 and at that req and red cost ... i just don't see it.

plus it is really hard to get into a situation where the plague of undeath ability works .

Thoughts?

Chosen Plague Marines most important job is to punish melee units.

After that, they can act as bullet sponges. Just make ur tics worship and either make your Chosen Plague cap the VP in the middle of the engangement and force your opponent to make a decision or send them in to the enemy and force him to kite them.

wouldn't you agree that a pc with a power-fist already kind of fills the roll of a melee punisher?
Use his ability and pretty much any melee unit could then be used to punish.

following that logic would it not be more practical to just get standard plague marines? ,

they can cap under fire just as well, they can technically tie units up
and they would fill an av roll for chaos armies that don't go for a havoc or dread.

Chosen are there to counter initiate! And they do a magnificent job at it (from my small exp playing with them)
They protect your havocs, blastmasters, TCSM's etc.
If you go for Chosen you went for a defensive build that forces the enemy to attack you an be aggressive.

I absolutely love them, they are the thing that Chaos has needed for a while because they have such good utility and form a real backbone that I find Chaos lacks that SM players have. So far in all games I have bought them I get double (an oversight on the opponents because they don't get enough vehicles).

The cost is steep, but the rewards you reap for father Nurgle are great.

Just follow a build like this: PC with Breath of Nurgle, Power fist and Pestilent armour with 1-2 Chosen Plague marines.
The internal battery has run dry, the game can now be played. However, clock based events will no longer occur.

Slow Mobility is just their disadvantage , Long Life expenditure. Great syngery with PC, paired with AC tics & 2 TCSM or Raptors/ 2 Havocs builds, etc them debuffing Melee-oriented units making em Vulnerable to your army , "Best defense is the Best Offense" type of Unit

I agree,I find them super useful vs melee armies.

ill post my game later but I absolutely love them vs GK! I haven't used them vs ork or nids but imagine they would be deadlier

In fact, they are awesome against squishy melee builds. Engage them, use their ability, kill then, zombies everywhere.

Hmm... Is Apo's Advanced Healing HP regen based or just gives you a set % of health back at fixed intervals?

Think they are great addition, support them right with pc and use them to defend set up teams from jump units and they perform great just dont send them in mindlessly and use the ability in big engagements

Yeah, but if you do, make sure you have that Nurgle's Rot, it works wonders.
