Hello Im new to the forum but not to the game which Ive been playing since release and fallen completely in love with. Id like to thank you all for the great work keeping it alive for people like me.
Now I think that one of the best sides of the game have always been the voices but before you start rolling your eyes thinking "Oh this guy just wants us to put voices for the new units" Im going to say that I know this is not possible but still (and I know you may have answered this tons of times) Id like to know exactly why is it impossible to use dow1 voices on elite for example? Because I might be able to help you guys with this issue (Im no sound expert but I have some knowledge)
A little question

Re: A little question
i'm fairly sure it would be legal for anyone who owned the dow1 games involved but they would have to be packaged separately and it's a whole nother can of worms anyway.

I have studied sound recording and design and have been bugging Lulgrim and Thomas to figure out how to implement sounds for new units since last August. I also wrote a number of e-mails to Relic, only to receive no response.
The problem lies in Relic's weird code logic when it comes to sound files. You can basically replace the existing files with some other files, no problem (so yes, sounds for existing units can be changed) but adding a new unit in the sound department and linking up it's actions or triggers to work properly - is still a mystery (so no new sounds for new units - they still have to share sounds with existing squads).
I'd love for this to be figured out as I have a number of local people who speak English very well (mainly Brits who came over to live), as well as >1500e in equipment for recording and properly monitoring sound so the sound files would be approxing professional sound.

The problem lies in file the links the event management to the sounds which is the BSC file. The file is a binary file which contains the needed container information. Hopefully I will have a plan how to hack the file later this week.

Re: A little question
talk to the CoH2 people; the engine is the same and apparently some of them are active in the game. i don't know how to get a hold of them but dullahan mentioned playing against one in the recent coh2 tourney.

The guy at the end of this thread http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?108014-What-is-a-bsc-file claims to have a tool that may be of some help

Re: A little question
Again, changing the existing files is not a problem. Doing separate sounds for new units [is].
WW is using Razor's sounds for example. If we wanted to make a new entity for WW so it played it's own sounds we would be completely in the dark. If we wanted to change Razorback sounds (effectively changing the WW sounds as well) it would be possible.
But what is the point of that?

talk to the coh2 people; find out how the system works.
