SM counters vs Stikkbombs, Stormboyz, Genestealers

Postby krimson » Mon 29 Sep, 2014 7:13 am

1.What is SM counter vs Stikkbombs? Its surviving the first volley. After that I can make them retreat but if the first volley hits I am in a pretty bad shape.

2.Second problem is against Stormboys and Genestealers. It is not the unit as such but the unit in the team they are playing. I can use scout shotgun and tac to kill them. But when they come inw ith charging sluggas and warboss and the stormboyz jump on my squad..I have to just use the shotgun blast and retreat. How to counter in t1..in t2 I use ATSKNF or when a dread comes out..thats not an issue.

3.Same problem with genestealer. Is HWT the only option. Nids have so many counters. With a charging HT, or a hard counter LA, along with warriors, hormas and the genes, i cannot seem to stop the genestealers. A small mistake and my tacs get wiped out. What kills genestealers? Dreads do not seem to work that well against nids as it does against orks.

Also exactly how does ATSKNF work? I know how to start it but then can I stop it inbetween? Does it need 1200 damage to charge again?
Thanks for your help.

ATSKNF gives you ranged damage resistance (40%), suppression immunity, reduced movement speed and 50% chance to do weapon knockback on melee attack (not special attacks). You cannot toggle it on/off iirc. And yes. You need the 1,2k damage to activate it again. It also has 80 second cooldown.

1) You need to be aware and move, usually it's pretty obvious where they will throw their nades.

2) Good question, I don't know either, outside of nades to straight up wipe them there is really nothing that kills them before they kill you.

3) Genstealers are very hard hitters but sightly easier to counter as they come way late, plain and simple either got for a dred or a razorback, with the dred you can fight head on while your hero/asm tie up his AV sources, with a rb you want to bleed him and kite, having a heavy bolter devastor helps alot, but don't count too much on it, it's easily countered by all nids heroes and armies.

Thanks for the replies. Since most orks go for two shootas and storms i go for two tacs and one shot gun scout..then if incan keep the tacs separate..i have a chance ...if things go well...it gets easier if i have asms...as asm jump generally attracts warboss and sluggas to them...

Prob with dred against genestealer is thewarrior and crushinf claw ht ..they can hurtva dred pretty bad..my tacs have to retreat...maybe putting a hb behind tacs might help...dunno...

Melee dreds have a 50% melee resistence now, which means it shouldn't be a problem anymore vs heavy melee stuff, previously yes, an HT with invulerability and crushing claws could solo a dred, but that's not the case anymore.

Also it depends on your commanders, if you are a FC a thunderhammer is a must vs nids, with that go around KBing his stealers/hormas/warriors.

If you are apo then either vials or purification rites and kb/throw the nade on his melee blob around your dred.

If you are TM mark target the HT, kill it quickly while his plasma gun focuses the warriors, and then it's easy to deal with the stealers.

Hey there,

http://www.twitch.tv/batpimp/b/573213328

I ran into this exact problem last night as FC vs tyranid enemy. Here is what I did. As you can see he changed his strategy the second time around but I was barely able to hold him back.

A few things to note:

This is a team game (not a 1v1)
We are basically evenly matched
I use the strategies that Ace mentions.
I am not the best FC player by any means

Luckily I am able to win both games but the second game he could have won at any moment. Sometimes he forced a full retreat from me but I didn't suffer unit loss which is more important to me than power farms.

if you want to talk more about this find me on steam and we can watch the stream together and I can explain what I did and why. Check my signature for ways to contact me

40% now. But heavy_melee has a 0.5 modifier vs vehicle armor as well.

Beyond that, if you're looking for how to beat genes with the FC, go watch the series of Riku vs Noisy in the tourney we just had, of Noisy's FC vs Riku's LA, Noisy did a pretty good job of dealing with the genes that showed up in one of the games (can't remember which one it was tho).

Jeans were in the game that was played on Quest's heresy.
