Purgation Psycannon animation

Postby hiveminion » Sun 05 Oct, 2014 8:42 pm

This has been bothering me for a while. Whenever Purgation Squads with Psycannons fire (especially when there's two) my frame rate drops a lot. I'm wondering if it's to do with the firing animation with all the little waves around their feet. Could it be changed to be a little less demanding on processing speed? The impact is similar to a massive 3v3 engagement with multiple nukes going off, and that's just from one or two squads firing their default weapons.

Won't be surprised if it's just the dedicated battle servers messing with you though. Cause I myself have been getting a number of lags and delayed orders.

I can't lower the settings lower than lowest :P.

Don't think this is the new servers either, I've had this problem for a long time.

It's your CPU and most likely your video card as well.

Since you have your settings already on the lowest setting I'd recommend just playing 1v1's and 2v2's, those are less demanding on your system.

I've got a good rig and there is a noticeable framrate drop(5-10). It looks like the animation is just being called over and over again and looped rapidly. Which is bad for performance. How was it implemented?

Can this please get fixed next update? Just played a game with multiple psycannon squads running around and the game lagged massively every time they fired in my field of view. It's almost unplayable for me as I lose squads before I can retreat them out because of this.
It must be the flashing effect around their feet as I don't get the lag if they fire from the fog of war.

How does one fix something that isn't broken?
You need to clean/check/update your pc.

im not so sure riku, even on my PC which i can play on highest settings while streaming i get a good 40-60 through T1+T2 in 3v3s. in T3 it starts to drop a bit depending on the map. but purgation psycannons OCCASINALLY drops my framerate to a crawl. the framerate drop is noticeable, atleast 10-20 frames dropped. and this is from a single units animations.

it is likely due to the animations and sound files being lopped over and over and over and over and over and over,

My Twitch where i occasionally stream myself pwning/getting pwned on elite mod, i seem to bounce between the two on a game to game basis. - http://www.Twitch.tv/Venkitsune

What Ven said. It IS broken as it takes up a disproportionate amount of processing power on a normal pc. My computer can handle the rest of the game just fine, it's just the psycannons that give me problems. And I'm sure I'm not the only person playing this game on a normal pc, so I'm sure more people have this problem.

No I completely understand, my PC is not flash at all (laptop, nothing flash for gaming) and Purgation Psycannons are a bit of a problem, I read (on this thread a while back?) that it was because the shooting animation stacks a lot of new entities, meaning obviously rendering more things. I think that was it, I'm probably stating the obvious, but yes for lower end non decked out gaming PCs this is an issue, more so with battle servers meaning you can lose squads over it.
The internal battery has run dry, the game can now be played. However, clock based events will no longer occur.

On our todo, hopefully fixed for next release. I think burn dat house has similar performance issues (unless it was fixed?) but not as bad.

That's great news, thanks! I've never noticed the effect with BTH myself.
