Plasma Cannons, and not killing friendlies with them...

Postby Candorous » Sun 28 Sep, 2014 7:16 pm

I used to main Chaos, but I got really tired of the gratuitously evil voiceover, so I switched to Ork. Since the only thing Chaos had that resembled a Plasma Cannon was the Blast Master, but I never really got that too much. Jump to the Orks and I'm grabbing the Wierd Boy all day, and I'm running into small problems with keeping him close enough to cast and shoot opportune auto-shots, but far enough away so he's not shooting into friendly sluggas or nobs, or even more frustrating shooting only my squad that was JUST about to wipe another in retreat. So far I've been able to use warp vomit to decent effect, but sometimes I do more harm than good with him.

So any tips and general strategies for PC, specifically the Wierd Boy?

Try using the Ground Attack command. It should be the G button if you use grid keys iirc. You can use that to manually aim your attacks. For the Blastmaster you have to keep in mind it'll knockback everything in it's path and for the SM Plasma Cannon it'll only hit at the point of impact, same with the Weirdboy.

In honesty though, you're probably going to run into problems with elevation. The projectiles run very flat to the ground so sometimes you'll find it just hits the dirt right in front of it. Wish that would get fixed but it is what it is :?

It is a big shame that the developers left named by you units in such an abandoned state, what saddens me even more is that the mod team does not prioritize changing it (I hope the issue is consideration). I've already raised this problem on a more serious level (it affects balance). Here is the topic with all my explanations on the subject.

Please don't blame people on assumptions. Especially the mod team that is very motivated and doing all of this for free.
There is a lot in this game that requires attention and it's not their fault that it is in this state.
FYI, these artillery units have a small arc in the dev build right now. This does lead to a longer travel time, albeit a small one.
It's still something to consider, they also have to worry about overshooting targets from higher positions. Not a real problem normally,
but it is when shooting from a garrison since you can't attack ground and compensate for the height difference.

I brought up the low angle of fire to say that you need to be careful about that and not hit your own units right in front of you :P. There's been a couple times when my plasma devs are the backline and the shot happens to plant right onto my frontline units. I think the Weirdboy does that too.

Sounds great but I don't find any notification of it.

Great... Let me write affectedly just like you... Mmm... So awesome... ... ... ... ...

When I mentioned that I had not seen a single notification I meant that I had not seen any information about it in the tentative balance change log or from some other official source. I cannot trust words of standard users. That is why I asked - where did he get that information?

Because it wasn't a planned change. Myrdal just happened to make the change one day to see how it would work. Assuming it ends up going in, which seems likely, you'll see it on the release changelog. There are other minor changes and bug fixes like this too. Notifying everyone about everything all the time, aside from changes that should be an important point of discussion, would be a lot of updating and ultimately pointless since it will all be seen in the end anyway.

Ace and Riku know about it because they're helping to test the changes, and others might know because they could've seen it on MaxPower's stream.

Riku was testing the beta you know... You can always ask for a download if you like, it isn't all hush hush.
The internal battery has run dry, the game can now be played. However, clock based events will no longer occur.
