Hi,
I am trying to decide wether Hellfire rounds are actually usefull. Hear me out:
Dragonfire rounds are usefull for infantry in cover (except energy shields of course) and buildings, as they deal full damage with full accuracy.
Vengeance rounds are usefull for vehicles and buildings.
But why would I ever choose Hellfire over Kraken rounds when going after infantry? They both do the same amount of DPS, except for heavy and super heavy infantry of course, where Kraken rounds are superior. The only other difference is the accuracy vs cover, as hellfire rounds have slightly better accuracy resulting in ~2 dps more. As soon as they are out in the open both rounds deal the same amount of damage.
Now if the infantry is forced to retreat and only heavy infantry is left, wouldn't the time to switch amunition mitigate the prior advantage vs the infantry?
Am I making any sense at all? Thank you in advance for any answer.

They are the best rounds the Sternguard have in 2.3.0 ...
You most likely missed: Loads Hellfire Bolts that do 1.5 piercing damage per second over 4 seconds in addition to their normal weapon damage when hitting commanders and light infantry.
Just play the game and see how good they are... DoT is amazing.
Getting changed in the next patch it seems (nothing set in stone). Sternguard are looking less attractive there atm

Kraken rounds are broken. They don't work how they should. For some incomprehensible reason 1 squad of sternguard veterans with hellfire rounds loaded in is OP. Outrageous... And spammable tzeentch marines who deal way more damage to light infantry and at the same time have absurdly high damage to other infantry types are the etalon of balance. Don't lose levels as well!.. That "OP" DOT.

Because they cant one shot a GUO of course!!
I think the problem is people forget that Sternguard are in fact awesome partly because they have 4 types of ammo that make them very flexible. If you want your tacs to do better vs heavy/super heavy, I believe that the plasma gun will do more damage (belief possibly not fact). The benefit of the sternguard is that you get Hellfire rounds as well which are great vs light and commanders.
If you are up against pure power armour Sternguard poss arent the way to go. If you need the flexibility then go for them and accept they do lots of things well rather than one thing awesome.
This of course is my opinion so wouldnt want to go putting words in peoples mouths

In what way are they broken?
They are broken because they don't do the damage they should do according to the change log. They have to do 14 dps to HI/SHI. And in reality they don't do that. This issue was reported by many users, by the way. And the developers of the mod confirmed the existence of the problem.

To be fair tho they are awesome for their hellfire rounds. I only get them for their damage to light infantry, and go plasma for the heavy. Having said that it might be because the Kraken dont do enough. Having said that I have no issue with them as a unit
