Base Nukes

Postby ShowMeMagik » Sun 09 Nov, 2014 7:25 pm

Ok guys what are peoples thoughts on the dreaded base nuke.

It happens more to me than I do to others but always feel bad when I do it. Is it not the done thing or just one of those things that you have to accept if you are getting beat.

I tend to do it (3v3) when Im ahead and want to keep my lane down while the others can focus on theirs.

Im interested to find out if people are against it or for it.

Fine really. If there's such an opportunity why not? Nukes will be nukes.

Remember in elite mod the base projects a 50% damage resistance aura.

It's mostly fine I think. If they can chase you all the way to your base, you're probably not doing so well in the first place.
Remember that you also have a 50% damage reduction in your base, so the chances of your squad surviving are good.
The only problem I have is with the farsight + nuke combo. Sniping something they shouldn't have been able to finish off.

As you said, isn't something all that common ;)

Then why are you waging eternal, relentless slaughter in the name of a corpse tyrant?

It is kind of a low blow but the 50% damage reduction makes it kinda OK.

A little off topic, but did a game of the Elite Mod ever had base destructions?

Well base-slaughter is fairly common, but no base destruction. The ravener alpha with a barbed strangler brood, 2 horms and 1 term alongside a bile spewer PC and 2 noise marines can be devastating if the RA can get a tunnel behind your base. The turrets drop in seconds and the BSWB makes it so you get utterly screwed over if you try to fight it at range and then the 2 horms can counter-initiate quite well. It's pretty luzly.

I don't think so. If my memory serves me right you lose your T2 & T3 globals while retaining your T1 ones.

so i guess for the 3 people who do play annihilate, SM are going to be OP in 2.3.1 as the drop pod is being moved to T1. then again if memory serves me; your economy stops dead in the water if your base dies right?

well personally if i get base nuked, or the other team gets base nuked, 80% of the time they've been outplayed, even on a maps like the refinery maps where it is easy to get trapped in base sometimes its hard to get a nuke on in there. and again if they do get one on you; it's likely you've been outplayed anyway.

My very first mp game (which was on Elite) I had my base destroyed, and I have never played annihilate mp games before :?

Kinda, yeah. Your base produces 264/10 a minute.

I would not hesitate to base nuke if I thought it was a good idea, but honestly most of the time it's not with the 50% damage reduction in Elite. Most nukes are better used outside of base, with the Empyreal Abyss being the exception.

I never do it unless the guy has been rude/irritating/etc.
Why? It feels... dishonourable. So you're not alone in feeling it's bad to do it. Generally if you can pull it off you ought to be doing pretty well in any case; if you can beat him, you can beat him without needing to nuke him in his base.

But if he's been mouthing off the whole game saying crap, then he's earned it.

If you're a good WSE player you're basically not frightened of nukes, in or out of base, though. I was in a game where a teammate of mine was nuked something like 3-4 times and lost nothing each time.

-50% damage to infantry in base makes the nuke a precision weapon for finishing off low-hp squads in particular. If I get nuked in base that's fair play.
