Valid, but often more complex than that. I was too blunt in my wording and didn't mean to say IG have no blob counters full stop. However, they lack the flexibility to counter blobs without becoming extremely one-dimensional and exposing weaknesses. I don't always bring out HWT in tier 1, and spotters actually less atm. But the hwt heavy bolter becomes a liability when tier 2 units come out and mostly always needs to be upgraded. Sinking 90 power into a unit to counter blobs, when both of which can lead to your downfall, is just not good enough a solution. The two are great units in the right circumstance but very make-or-break: manti can be extremely effective but is less so against better players who can dodge it, and ogryns are just countered so easily and result in major bleed in this case. Other races can bring out things like the thunder hammer, or CL's LTGB, or the farseers abilities etc. All of these come as upgrades which it doesn't need to be said are cheaper than buying a whole new unit simply for blob countering. Spotters are probably the most reliable if looking for anti-blob but it would be nice to have a High dps anti blob too such as the aforementioned abilities, instead of simply disruption.
The ST can be bought with excess req and can ADAPTED should the need for anti blob dps arise. Otherwise you could use either of the other two upgrades. I think the role should be filled by an upgrade more than a whole new, 90 power unit.
