Alright guys, here's my first attempt at writing some semblance of rules. You'll find that some bits have been copied and pasted from elsewhere...
The Ad
A group to organise Elite Mod Exhibition matches - a chance for players to gain confidence, have their 15 minutes of fame, to improve their game and get laughed at by everyone.
Seriously though, we'd like a bigger 1v1 player pool so if you feel like you'd like to improve your game and could do with some tips in a friendly, fun and supportive atmosphere this is the place to go. The format is designed in a way so that no single player dominates and everyone gets a turn.
Trial date and starting time
Sunday 15th February 1800 GMT
I've slotted this date in to make it as convenient to as many people as possible, including you yankees. Hopefully you've gotten enough brownie points from your significant other on Valentines day so you can afford to spend a few hours in DoW.
Signing up
Register your interest here
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/EliteKotH
This is still a work in progress, a more detailed link will be posted nearer the date.
Be present in the group chat 15 minutes before the start of the event if you intend to play.
Prizes
A chance to get your ass kicked while being streamed for the entertainment of all...no pressure.
Rules
First Rule: DO talk about the fight club
Second Rule: Seriously, DO talk about the fight club. We'd like to get in as many people on this as possible.
1v1
Victory point control: 500 VPS
Random starting location
Standard resources
King of the hill rules. The 'King' continues to accept 'Challengers' until beaten, at which point the Challenger becomes the King.
Should the King remain undefeated after three consecutive Challengers, he shall abdicate his throne.
A King may also voluntarily abdicate.
Should a Challenger fail to overthrow a King, he may not challenge the same King again.
Commander choices
Unlimited commander choices
Random is permitted
The King will always lock in his commander first. The Challenger will then lock in his commander choice.
Maps
The Challenger will always have the choice of map
The King will have the option to veto a single map during the match
The 1v1 Map Pool
Let's get crazy, let's get loose. Anything goes.
Observers
Due to the nature of the Club, the Challenger pool will be drafted from the observer pool. Please do not observe if you do not intend to fight soon.
However, streamers and referees are excluded from this rule.
Disconnections
When a game ends prematurely for whatever reason, one of two events will come into effect:
The players agree on a winner or agree to replay.
If the players don't come to an agreement a referee will make the decision for them. The referee's decision will be final and without discussion so the Club can go on as smoothly as possible.
Additional Tournament Rules
Be respectful. Inappropriate or disrespectful behavior will result in disqualification or other disciplinary actions as the referees see fit.
Using "Burn Dat House" (Slugga boys ability) on power farms is prohibited.
Failing to follow this rule will result in a game loss.
Streamers
Every streamer out there is welcome to cast the games they want.
Please do not crowd a lobby with too many streamers.
Risks and concerns
A lobby can only accommodate up to 8 players.
If too many people sign up, how do we ensure that everyone gets a timely turn? Multiple groups is an option, though we'd need adequate streamers (though this comes with a danger of splitting up watching audiences)
How do we maintain the queue of Challengers? One option would be on a first come first serve basis, noted down by the referee. Part of the referee's job will also be to ensure that one player doesn't play too much.
So what is everyone's thoughts on weekly exhibition matches?

Nice writeup.
We can put 3-4 streamers in a single lobby and if it fills up, we can split the streamers into separate lobbies. I don't think we should worry too much about splitting the viewerbase, getting more people playing should be the goal.
Since private lobbies don't really work I guess the streamer can host a public lobby and just boot people on the fly if they're not present in the steam group.

@cheekie
burn dat house was patched so that you cant use it on gens. that was done ages ago
otherwise yea. i think we should have no more than 2-3 streamers per lobby, and we should encourage the streamers to be in voip with eachother or something so they can discuss what a player should or should not have done etc etc. the standard format for that kinda thing.
it seems we have no shortage of interest in playing, or streaming these matches. so multiple lobbys with a shortage of either players of streamers shouldnt be an issue, but we'll see.
i also think that, to save space; one of the streamers should be a referee to save space on obs slots so more people can fit in.

Well one streamer per lobby with 1 or 2 non-participating observers also on voice chat seems ideal. My other thought was that we could do an earlier date, like Sunday Jan 18? I could stream that day.

If that's the official time then I won't be participating or streaming quite simply. I've expressed my stance on these tournaments in the past about giving more consideration to people outside of the UK namely to those in SEA and the stance hasn't changed.
May I suggest that this be done on a Saturday or (and I know this might sound super crazy) a Friday? Maybe I'm missing something here and everyone works 6 days a week and Sunday is the only day to do these events.

Since everyone forgets, my timezone is AEST (UTC/GMT) +10 hours. AEDT is (UTC/GMT) +11 hours. Hopefully no-one tells me what time any tournament is on.

a lot of jobs are monday-friday. but jobs like those in retail, usually only get the sunday off. its really the only day where a lot of people will have the day off. some people also have night shifts or have normal sleeping patterns, so doing the event any earlier or later is also out of the question.
the way cheekie has set it up, is so that we can get as many people as we can to participate. its not too late, or not too early in the day. and its a sunday which, like i said; is the day most people have a day off.
you cant satisfy everyone, but this way we'll get people in europe (where most of the playerbase is based) playing in the evening, and those playing in america (where the majority of the rest of the ELITE playerbase is) will be playing earlier in on the day as far as timezones go.

It's the difficulty with organising across multiple time zones. The only time which I've gotten Americans, Europeans and Australians together on a single call is around 2100 GMT, which is still waaaayyy early for those in the East. If you try to please everyone, you'll probably end up pleasing no one.
However, the beauty of the Club is that it doesn't need to have the rigid structure of a normal tournament format. If people are streaming in separate lobbies, why can't they do so at different times from each other? However, I'd like to emphasise that this initial event is a trial run, intended to draft in as many people as possible to grab interest in the Club. Once we've had the initial success, there's no reason why you can't host your own lobby at your own convenient time!
@ fv100: Sure, Sunday 18th January 1800 GMT sounds good to me, though we'd probably need to start rolling soon to get the announcement out.
I would attach an image detailing a list of several different time zones with speculative times in which people may be prepared to play at, but I can't get the attachment feature working!

Can I suggest my local pub pool rules "blackboard sign up"
Basically start an announcement in the group. People comment on the announcement to put their name down. They cannot put their name on again until they are beaten. Challenger is simply the next person in the comments. Simple and effective and keeeps it fair.

I'd also like to throw in the opinion that different streamers don't necessarily have to organize a group of players to do these weekly matches. Why not just have each streamer make their announcement when doing the matches are convenient for them and then whoever is in the group/sees the lobby can just hop in?
I've already seen about 2/3 streamers express interest in this so that department is fine. Anyone interested can just keep their eye out on announcements from Steam.
My only counterpoint to this is that I worry that doing it this way could possibly lead to all the streamers doing it on the weekend which leads to people being on and active all at the same time once a week which...... mission accomplished

Sounds like a brilliant idea, this will make things more convenient for people like PhatE.

Sounds completely fair and logical...until I saw Dark Riku being the first signup
. I think a mix of first come first served with a roughly divided skill group bracket (provided enough casters and players sign up) may be in order. We don't want to put people off signing up and we want to ensure that the King doesn't stay on for too long...suddenly I remember having the debate in the other thread about not wanting to segregate the community further, but also recognising the need of a 'proving ground' for intermediate players...ugh, logistics. I suppose we can worry about it closer to the date when more people have signed up.At any rate, I've gone ahead with the initial trial run of Sunday 18 January 1800 GMT for the time being.
