(6p) Avensa Stronghold

Hey people. Used the downtime while ill to finish a new 3v3 map. The design goal was to create a map that rewarded mobility without just making it bigger, by encouraging players to push natural VPs for triple caps instead of camping the contested. Whether it will actually play out like this, who knows. To facilitate this the map is relatively small and open, with many avenues of movement to the different areas. For those curious of the size, the raw playable area is slightly smaller than Argus, though that doesn't mean they use the playable area in the same way obviously.

v1.0 is ready and should be in the next Elite build. Screenshots below.

Looks very good liked how u tried to reward mobile play, Seeing as Estia has entered in my top 3 3v3 maps this similar urban format gives me something to look forward cheers dude.

I'm always on the lookout for urban maps, it's my favourite way of doing battle in 40k, but so far no one has made a very good urban map. Angle Gate is too narrow, Meridian is too must about the natural powers and camping mid, Tartarus looks nice but is very closed down, and I have to say I am not a fan of Estia (or Deathworld Temple for that matter), it felt too flat and range friendly, though on a similar note I really like Kathari, it's a fun map. This, if your description lives up to it, might be the first urban map that I enjoy, I'm looking for ward to this. I suppose now I need some screenshots of my map up.

Well this map is more open than Estia, so probably not a favourite for you.

looking good. always nice to see more urban maps. from the screenshots it kinda reminds me of a DOW1 map i cant remember the name of.

so from the looks of it we'll get getting anywhere between 2-4 maps in the next elite build, noice!

Was there some kind of mapmaking conspiracy going on or where you all just too shy to show your map until someone else did it first :P

sorry if I detract from your thread. Do you plan on updating Kathari ruins or Deathworld at all?

On topic: Any map that has the mobility and strategy of Argus is GREAT with me! I need to learn how to do this and update Tiber Outpost and Siccarus Plateau to be more enjoyable and balanced, among others.

Why, what's wrong with them?

Siccaris Plateau is one of the worst 3v3 maps! The right hand side is just royally screwed by the map layout!

No you're right now I think about it. for some reason I didn't think about how that patch of foliage makes it so much harder for the right hand side to defend their farm than the left. Still don't think there are any fundamental problems with either map though, they're both simply big but that leads to some interesting and unique strategies.

Not only that Torpid, one of the other big flaws is that the right hand side takes forever to even enter the battlefield.
All that time spend moving and retreating adds up very quickly.

Example: scouts from the left hand bottom side can be in the enemy power garrison before the enemy even gets there!

That one retail 2v2 map that no one plays (it's an ice map) could also use a rework. :?

I might update Kathari to make it a little more friendly to PvP play - it wasn't designed for regular PvP initially.

Deathworld won't be updated. It's not terrible, but also not that great. Was the first map I made and is a bit big and generally lacks structure in the middle. Good for a game now and then though.

EDIT: Kathari has been updated. Made a bit more symmetrical and removed the very high shot blocker near the north that could obstruct player's view. Should be in next build.

thanks indrid the northernmost part of kathari basically sees no play and its super difficult to defend even if you manage control it. The fighting is so concentrated its hard to manage a flank, at least for chaos, ork and in some cases sm. Eldar, IG, Tyranid have it easier because of mobility or something else.

I love tiber outpost but its way to big but I like the mobility it allows.
Siccarus is also a bit too big but I like the mobility it allows. I agree that if it was narrower a bit and smaller it would be a cool map.

I don't mind Tiber and Siccaris now and then, I'd choose them more if players didn't whine so much and refuse to play things.

I'd like to play JoC, WoB, White Walls and Garzweiler more too but again the whine.

Just to really provide some revelations, my favourite map is Skull Masha Brackens. I likely have no sympathisers.

You have my blessing to pick Tiber, JoC, WoB and White Walls (if no one has a wooden pc) :p
Sicarus is just too unbalanced to play, Mines is ok-ish, it has some minor issues.
