Next month I should finally be able to finish my gaming pc build and this is the first thing I'm getting, my question is; does it matter if I buy the hard disk version or through Steam, does the mod require a specific version? May be a stupid question but I just wanted to be sure I got that it didn't matter if the retail version was hard disk or bought through steam, sorry if this question got posted before.

It doesn't matter. All you need is Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II – Retribution.

What do you mean by "hard disk version"?

If you mean "do i buy the game through steam, or actually getting the retail box with the CD inside", there's actually no practical difference between the two (unless you feel better having something physical) - the CD installer will install steam anyway and then the game ends up downloading the latest version off steam, etc.. You end up with the same software installed, at the end.

If you want to try the Elite mod, make sure it's "Dawn of War II Retribution", though, there's a couple of different Dawn of War II variants (if you didn't know this already).
