Hey, I'm brand new to Elite mod and didn't even realize there was still a community for it. I've had DoW2 Retribution since it came out and played games here and there, but never fully understood it and always got rekt by whoever I played because of it, so heres some nerd tier newb questions to ask. I like IG/SM but I seem to not beable to win with them, they feel like they kinda get run over by everything, specially Nids which my friends who are joining with me are playing. I'm best at Eldar/Orks
How many Power nodes do I wanna try to secure? Any timeline on how I should go about that? I've been playing alot of bot games to get my basics down and I always have an abundance of power once the game goes on (havn't decided on a race, play random atm.
Reading and poking around other websites I've read that there is an upkeep around 30 pop, do I want to avoid going over 30 pop? Obviously the bots, and the few players I've gone against seem to blow past 30 pop early in the game and get an early advantage with more numbers of squads. Am I just playing poorly (which is a yes even if it isn't reliant to this situation) or am I not getting enough squads out?
I've been mucking with some Gray Knight stuff, are games with vehicles common once you know what your doing, because Gray knights seem to have no answer to vehicles.
Tried some random matches vs bots, got 3 Grey Knights on the enemy team vs IG(Me) tyr and orks. I never really had too much trouble with SM, but GK deffinetly seem more durable, what answer to heavy infintry does IG have, just the plasma weps? I tried plasma kaskrins and such and they were deffinetly doing damage, but not enough to really force retreats.
Any other Generic Tips for someone learning the multiplayer aspect of DoW2 would be lovely, I want to get into this game, even if its just on the side with friends, and I'd like to know the mechanics of it so im not god awful and can fully enjoy the game.

Re: [Newb L2P Topic] General Questions
Hi, and welcome. I'll leave the strategy discussion to people who know it a bit better than I do, but check out the links in my signature (ignore the anger
)
The first one is a link to the Codex, which has a bunch of useful things in it; units, abilities and all that, and what they all do. Also a bunch of links on the bottom of the main page to other things.
The second one is a link to a tutorial which explains some of the game's mechanics and explains what all of the things in the Codex mean.

Re: [Newb L2P Topic] General Questions
Well, for some new IG beatiues in elite, I can say that :
1 - If you see set up teams or ranged blocks, get spotters. Try to learn what is Spoters in codex.
2 - New catachans are cheaper and stronger, use them. Check their new changes.
3 - If you don't have enough power to bring tanks in T3, go Karskin. They are cool. Check them in codex too.
Well for SM, just learn what are those new units. If you already have enough experiance with SM, it should't be a problem for you.

Re: [Newb L2P Topic] General Questions
I main as IG. Grey Knights are one of the more difficult races to fight, if they go full melee, as the IG imo. I've worked with a few different strategies to beat them. I play with the Inquisitor usually. I've had the most success with this: x2 guardsmen, 1 sentinel. Stomp on sentinel. Crossbow pistol on inquisitor. Now this is a little crazy, but I go double catachans. The anti melee options they give are tremendous and the dps they put out at close range is excellent. I'll sometimes go 1 or 2 demomen on the catas, place the charges in the enemies retreat path before an anticipated fight (This is an excellent strategy against any enemy without detector squads, ps. Players wait until the last second to retreat squads against IG since they have little melee, so a well placed demo charge will almost always wipe a squad. It leaves enemies tearing their hair out, I don't know why I never see other IG players doing this it's awesome). With a little luck and some planning you can definitely wipe storm troopers, and maybe a strike or interceptor squad. Wiping a single GK unit is a significant blow.
Now, you've got to get to tier 3 as fast as you can after 1. The double catas and plasma gun GM will hold you over, typically, until T3. For tier 2, I'll MAYBE pick up ogryns or storm troopers. They're pretty situational against GK, however. A manticore can be killer if you pick up excrutiators on the inquisitor, if the unit isn't retreated it'll wipe if the rockets are placed well. I haven't found great use from a chimera, but perhaps a better player than I could.
In tier 3 go straight for leman russ with executors. They annihilate GK. Get at least 2. They're really the only unit you'll need to end the game. Pick up plasma kasrkins if you've got spare req and power after that
An alternate strategy is to go for triple GM, double HWT. The idea is to suppress/get big ranged dps before they can close in for melee. This one is a little trickier I find. You'll learn to fight the GK with practice.
As for your other questions, research online. There are far better guides out there than me. Don't worry too much about upkeep. Play around with when you plop down the gens, if you have too much power place less early in the game.
Here is a good guide for you. There's also a multitude of replays you can watch of pros and average players. viewtopic.php?f=11&t=718

Re: [Newb L2P Topic] General Questions
sweet TY, other than playing my friends, where can I search for/find matches since elite mod doesn't have the matchmaking feature that standard does?
Re: [Newb L2P Topic] General Questions
Go to the public custom games in the elite mod. There is no matchmaking that I know of.
