LG vs FC stormshield
LG vs FC stormshield
Can anyone show me some replays or forums, or any strategy at all for how to fight against double TSM with stormshield as lord general? I have a replay to show, but the board attachment quota has been reached......

Re: LG vs FC stormshield
I think your first mistake was not getting the Catachans as soon as you saw the Storm Shield. You got Spotters first, I think you should have got those once you saw the Devs.
After that you were unlucky sending your Catachans into the FC for melee as they couldn't path around the walls properly and got shot down, though I think you should have sent them into Tacs instead with medkit support. Your other mistake though was never engaging the other Tacs in melee with your LG, so the Catas always had double Tacs + Scouts + FC on them which was just too much for them to handle. Wait until the FC turns to engage the Catas then run in and stomp the FC and Tacs if you can. GM, Spotters and Sent focus down the scouts.
The trickiness is setting up the Cata push with Spotter shells, judging their engagements well and not forgetting your medkits or Sent. Compared to the FC just using Defend and marching forward with his army it's a lot to do, and shotgun scouts could really screw you over if they get close to the Catas and knock them down.
Then T2 Ogryns are tempting but risky if he gets Hammer and/or Dread, at that point you can focus on control perhaps with HWTs.

Re: LG vs FC stormshield
Double sents and double gm and get on his face with stomps. That should be enough if it's just fc and 2 tacs, but if he gets devastator then you can get spotters or catachans on top of it.
Also get sergeant for lg to keep gm in play for far longer in t1.

In a 1v1 you have a distinct mobility advantage with either 3 GM and/or 2 sents and you need to exploit that. Personally I think 3GM is superior due to the current meta. Sents are pretty bad now. Their stomp is weak, near impossible to hit fully on non-suppressed ranged units they have horrible scaling vs SM and they don't do much vs tacs in t1 at all.
Regardless, just don't go for a heavy weapon team in T1. Chain your knockback together to stall vs the blob while you cap elsewhere on the map. People say sents are good vs scouts but ultimately guardsmen thrash them as well. Normally you lack a third though because it's too much upkeep but not anymore in elite. A flamer guardsmen is very effective vs this blobby sort of play too since he will continuously blob-push your farm, sneaking your flamer gm behind the enemy lines for a bash can be very nice but again this is not worth it unless you have 2 other guardsmen that you can give plasma guns to in t2, so 3 GM overall.

this was a 2v2.
otherwise i think indrid hit the nail on the head. it certainly didnt help that you got doubled a couple of times due to your teammate not holding his lane either.

My Twitch where i occasionally stream myself pwning/getting pwned on elite mod, i seem to bounce between the two on a game to game basis. - http://www.Twitch.tv/Venkitsune
Re: LG vs FC stormshield
If you make it to T2 then just get ogryns. This will most likely prompt the force commander to get his hammer and thereby lose his shield. Or just 2x plasma guns for his tacs but it is still nothing scary for ogryns' armour, the LG can always support ogryns well, so I would opt for this tactic. The space marines don't have a lot of tools to make ogryns' life bad.

SM Dreadnought makes Ogryn's life very bad with melee resist, and is comparable in price so there's no guarantee you'll get Ogryns out sooner to inflict some losses first.

						Re: LG vs FC stormshield
A hwt with a lascannon will serve well to control this walker and that is a pretty cheap investment. And the thing is that we have a ranged army to deal with. Tactical marines aren't known for their high damage output, so they won't force off my hwt (refractor shield up) fast. And he has no ASM as a mean to quickly tie up a ranged squad. If he has 2 tacs then he probably has only one scout squad as repair-support for this dread. And given the fact that devastators won't do much to ogryns because I can always make them immune to suppression. All in all I think that ogryns will perform well in this situation.
Certainly a melee walker is something you want to use against ogryns now. But I didn't mention it as an effective counter-purchase due to tacs' inability to quickly deal damage to something that would threaten this walker a lot. I think it is more difficult to keep a dreadnought fully functional as a FC with his shield when you have to deal with a setup team and when you have no ASM than it is to keep ogryns alive under command of a Lord General. Hard to explain it here really, I just have the picture in my head how I would control the flow of battle in this specific situation, I hope you understand some points.
P. S. By the way, why the heck are ogryns still that expensive to get and reinforce?! I think they lost their potential when all melee walkers became very resistant to damage, they cannot engage these targets now without support and that means you invest more to at least even out chances. Just like snipers got less expensive when they lost their potential to cause loses. Walkers play a significant role in T2, not being able to damage them as they used to do alone warrants some minor changes.

Because they were never meant to fight melee walkers anyway.
