A very strange thing to say. What doesn't work great in pairs? Setup teams that cover each other, doubled firepower of some ranged unit or a tandem of jump units that chain their jumps. This is relatable to probably everything.

In a some way, yes. Though double melta Dreads have quite a bit more utility than some other double stuff... Like double Banshees or double RB.

Consider how mass MM dreadnought's beats mass brightlance wraithlords but of course one MM dread fails hard vs a BL WL melta dreads are for whatever reason incredibly powerful en masse.
Lets make Ordo Malleus great again!

Multi-melta is amazing but nobody fells that they need it. That's the problem IMO.

MM Dreadnought is best for an aggressive style of play. Those who find it weak merely don't play the way they should with it. You gotta rush almost mindlessly, and swtich stance often to benefit from the insane burst damage.

I had a 1v1 vs Lindonin, TM vs WL where I went 2x MM Dread. Pretty nice game, but it's lost in the warp now.

You gotta rush almost mindlessly,

Oh, yeah, go ahead, do that... Any melee walker now counters this thing with ease. And it was like that even before (maybe the deff dread could be defeated). And setup teams don't let this thing do anything either (the MM dread has to get close to do anything and it spells death sentence for it if any setup team is present). I am better off with a normal dreadnought that can fight other walkers and emerge victorious or with its anti-infantry option that allows to decimate infantry from safe distance and frequently unleash explosive barrages on them to make their life even worse. The MM version is stuck somewhere in the middle and clearly asks for something else to be desirable.

If I'm playing TM my first T2 purchase is often the Dreadnought. I usually keep it in melee stance in T2, and when I am T3 I usually puchase a second Dreadnought and buy MM on both. That keeps them really useful and stron in T3, and in my experience better than the Predator in terms of survivability and damage output. Especially if I can at some point shell out for DAOT.

Why are Dreadnoughts so good in pairs? They can not be effectively kited by tanks, they can really quickly wear down dangerous infantry units through one hit kills, and if they are Lvl 3+ they have a LOT of hitpoints. And if there are melee walkers around, you can kite with one and blast it with the other. They really synergize with each other, especially with a repairing commander.
