"Beginner", I need advice !

Postby Ike » Wed 22 Apr, 2015 1:14 pm

Firstly ! i would like to say that I like this mod. It's great to see so much enthusiasm in this.

Who am I ? I'm Ike, I'm new and I want to improve. I'm only play IG because of reason. But I often lose and it's frustrating.
I can't speak english correctly because I'm not used to and my accent is horrible. And because of this, I'm a bit shy 'u'.

I play 95% of my games in 3vs3.
My build order is classic with 1 sent/2 gm + 1 catachan or spotter or heavy weapon squad.
When I hit t2, I love the manticore and buy it. After, I try to go t3 and buy a leman russ.

I always feel that I lack Energy. So I never know if It's better to upgrad this unit, the hero etc etc

Don't hesitate to tell me if I do something wrong or anything else.

Here my replay in 3vs3

(Ty Cyris)
I hope it will work.

Thanks for reading and sorry for my english.

Welcome!

I'd say start by reading Codex's amazing post at the top of this forum: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=718 It is not short, it is dense, but it is absolutely full with the information you need.

Second, what sort of problems do you generally have? Your post is generaly "I need help", but is too vague to drill into.

Your build order seems fine for 3v3, though I'd strongly consider a Chimera in T2 before rushing to T3. It will allow your GU to really shine, and let you traverse the map to help your teamates.

3v3's are often about ganging up, knowing where to hold the line and knowing when to back off. If your "lane" is pushed out, focus on helping adjacent allies. If you are getting pushed hard in a 2v1, focus on not taking losses, but stalling your opponent. Give your teamates time to take advantage of their 1v2, don't just instantly retreat en mass.

Put your replays on Gamereplays.org. Megaupload is sketchy as sin. http://www.gamereplays.org/dawnofwar2/r ... hp?game=47

Lastly, if mechanics is what you need to improve, play 1v1 against the expert cpu till you can crush it. It will help you multi-task a lot. Then play humans in 1v1, where you can much more easily predict build orders and decide how to counter them. 3v3 tends to be lots of everything, which makes counters harder to notice.

Thanks for your answers and links ! I have updated my original post
My english is'nt my mother thongue so I've a hard time to explain my thought.

I think my biggest problem is that I never know what to do. Or if I'm doing something good or bad.
And I hate how the vehicle works. How they move. I lost countless vehicle because when i click back, they did a giant U-turn. It drives me crazy.

And what do you think about the ig turret ? I love them. (no upKeep) But I don't know how to use them efficiently.
And the same for Heavy Weapon Squad with Autocannon. Are they useless ?

Against the expert cpu, I can crush them. Often, I'm camping in front of their base with a strong t1 and chase the unit who are capping strategic point.

I use bunker/double sent+ heavy weapon squad etc.

I can't evalute my level. That's why I upload a game. I'm sure you are better than me to identify my problem.

That is something you'll learn over time.

Yeah, that is a problem, if you want to go backwards with a vehicle you have to micro it properly.
You constantly click right behind it to back it up.

They do a lot of damage. They have their place. Sometimes you just want to keep the suppression though, It depends on the situation.
