New to Elite

Postby Dragoonity » Wed 17 Jun, 2015 12:38 am

Hello guys, I'm new to this mod and just got the game today. I was just wondering how to you look up other people who are playing this game and am using this mod? Most of all, how many people that have the game play with the elite mod? I am still new to the game and will be playing the campaign first and foremost.

Easiest way to start getting familiar with the community is through joining the steam groups. There's an elite mod playtesting one that most people are in, as well as a few beginner groups. You should probably be able to find some bros there to play some games with. Around here most people just play elite multiplayer rather than campaign or last stand or retail multiplayer. That said I love this community so I think it's great. Welcome! :)

Yessir! Campaign is really a whole different animal entirely than multiplayer, so if you want to really get involved with elite and start learning the mechanics I would jump right in. There have been a few other threads here recently with new people asking for other new opponents, try adding them as a start!

You also might try PM'ing atlas or swiftsabre or myself, any one of us could probably help you out in teaching you some of the basics, evaluating your skill level, recommending people to play with, or even playing you and tutoring you some. Are you more interested in playing competitive 1v1's or casual team games?

@Crewfinity I think ill start out with the campaign first before diving head long into multiplayer. By the time I play multiplayer, I might just PM you to some tutoring. Thanks for the offer :D

I'm also new to Elite, so I'll use this thread to ask some questions:

Has fire on the move accuracy been improved across the board? Is ranged damage reduction to retreating units as it was in retail? I seem to be losing a lot of models to fire-on-the-move chasers. I know I have to learn to retreat sooner; I'd just like to know if there were any changes in that regard.

Eldar's Falcons seem ridiculously strong, and fairly safe due to their shield. Thoughts on that?

Can someone explain to me the mechanics of the Flash Gitz' splash upgrade? Do they always fall over, or is it random? Their damage is insane but I'm just not sure about their limits yet.

Has anyone made effective use of the Painboy in team games? It seems like a large cost sink early on for minimal returns. Is picking one up T2 or T3 to buff significant squads like Stormboyz+nob, Flash Gitz, Nob squad etc. a viability, or is he meant to be incorporated earlier?

Finally; Chaos now have zero weaknesses. They were OP in retail, and now they're just hilarious. If I don't laugh, I'll cry.

Hey, welcome!
As far as I am aware fire one the move has not been improved, and ranged damage on retreat is mostly the same (nothing higher then in retail, but for example warpspiders damage against retreating units was halfed.)

I can't really comment on balance, but I don't think the Falcon is seen as OP, and is not overused. The shield requieres T3, and reduces its movementspeed a bit. I wouldn't call the Falcon weak though.

No Idea on Orks Flashgitz^^

The painboy is generally only used IF you get Stormboyz, or later with Nob squads. But maybe that changed this patch, I heard Tex saying something along those lines, that he is usefull in general now?

Anyways, don't let yourself be bogged down by balance, self improvement can overcome almost all perceived or real balance problems untill you are in the top %^^.
And another source to learn about elite: http://www.dawnofwar.info/index.php?page=elite/codex The codex. and how to use it: http://www.dawnofwar.info/index.php?pag ... t_glossary .

Also here is the semi complete complete changelog from retribution to Elite: http://www.dawnofwar.info/index.php?pag ... gelog_full

That doesn't mean you shouldn't ask questions here, always happy to help, but just if you want to read up on specifics or something or you want to theorycraft :D.

I believe that with the upgrade whenever a Git model fires the weapon, he has a 10% chance of knocking himself and units in a small radius around him over. That's for each individual shot, not as a whole squad.
