New game modes?

I know this would have been discussed a number of times in the past, but is there a possibility of adding new ways to play the game? I'm asking because the current meta - 500 VPs, normal starting resources is the only playable and acceptable option. This has the unfortunate side effect of making the game stale, especially after a few hundred hours down the line as it effectively gives the player zero options on customising how they want to play.

Now I'm not asking for some crazy new game mode like Last Stand which tears everything down and rebuild it from the ground up. It might not even be trying to make annihilate viable. Instead, I'm looking for the possibility of lobby game customisation options which is relatively easy to implement and refreshes the feel of the game. Examples to consider:

Starting Resources: 500/750/1000
Starting Power: 0/25/50
Starting Tier: T1/T2/T3
Tier Cap: T3/T2/T1
Pop Cap: 100/125/150
Resource Generation Rate: 1x/1.25x/1.5x

Don't like terminator spam in 3v3's? Cap the tiers at T2. Want to have bigger battles? Increase the pop cap. Even little things like increasing the starting resource to 750/25 would shake up the early game immensely and open the game to something other than the double shoota/terma/scout start. Again, I'm trying to stress changes which would refresh the game whilst being relatively easy to implement.

If that's thinking too small, however, I present to you...

Heroes mode
Heroes mode is a completely original idea by me (and not Warcraft) in which you have the option to progressively purchase more of your faction's heroes as tiers progress. How it works by example:

You start off with your FC in T1
In T2, you gain the option to buy either the Apo or TM for a req/power/red cost. You do not gain your second hero's globals.
In T3, you gain the option to buy the remaining faction hero for a req/power/red cost. You do not gain this hero's globals.

Of course, further details such as upkeep, pop cost or whether these additional commanders should be able to resurrect like your main commander should be taken into consideration.

It would be clumsy, but the world builder has everything that the campaign has in it, so whilst a direct modifier to resource income is possible by changing values, you can also do it with super natural gens and population beacons I believe. It's possible in the same way 4v4 is possible.

I think this could be super interesting. I'm personally interested in the T2 cap on games though since that's when my gameplay tends to need the most work in team games :P

I don't know how feasible this would be from a programming point of view though. Also, is there really an interest in this as a community?

Some good ideas tbh ,i do think we need a new game mode especially as annihilate and free for all are meh at best. That hero one sounds pretty fun i would however like a capture game were the object jumps around the map (king of the hill) and u win by holding it. U could have several points on the map it could jump to ofc this is of the top of my head just wanted to add a idea.

This mode needs a lot of work and time, I think we can see it in like 2016 summer. But you have veeeeeeeeeewy good points and ideas. Also, I support this idea! If only it is worth it.

I think it will be something like HR games. Few games for fun, then it's get boring and no1 will play it except newbies.

Well we can always have a look at it. Trust em the world builder has loads of nifty things in it, so even if from a stats perspective things are not feasible, the world builder has fixes. Would anyone be interested in 4v4? I know there was a thread where people were interested.

I know a 4v4 is possible but is it also feasible? Image the strain on the Engine to keep track of two more armies. This would also require entirely new maps to be made which would ofc would become very laney because of their size (Eldar mobility though). Let us not forget the strain on some peoples PCs. There are already people out there struggling with the maps from Max Power so imagine what a 4v4 will do to them.

The idea concerning different game settings is really interesting though. It allows for more viable builds and mixes things up greatly. I have taken a look into the SGA files and located a few places that would allow for such a customization but I have no clue how to change the UI. Hell, I can't even teach the AI to use Operatives more than every 5th game in skirmish games XD

Then don't play 4v4? You know this si the reason I don't play 3v3, I can't run it, so other people who can't run 4v4 don't have to play it. I don't see any problem with this at all. If Max Power made 4v4 maps full of details, then they'd run awfully and no one would play them and he'd have to downgrade visuals to make them viable. Or not, and just make people's computers bleed.

I'll just repeat myself in short from memory:

There are custom 4v4 maps out there.
All? retail? 3v3 maps were once made into 4v4 maps by just placing an extra base on them and reshuffling where needed. (By Angry Bird I think?)
All of these maps suffered the same problem. The resource points, for some reason, became the 1v1 versions. (I don't know if this is fixable.)

I do know I enjoyed the few matches we had back in the day, dat carnage!

I think I remember seeing 4v4 through 8v8 (or higher?) resource multipliers somewhere in the code. I'll look for it some time.
