Sorry, where is everyone?
Sorry, where is everyone?
New patch out with match-making included, peak time on a Sunday. Literally no-one queuing for games. Taking 10 minutes per queue to even get a game [1vs1], and its usually the guy i played previously.
Is the word out about this update? Are people playing on the old one still, or something? Is Vanilla still more popular?

Re: Sorry, where is everyone?
Most people prefer custom team games still over matchmaking I think
Re: Sorry, where is everyone?
Why do people prefer custom 1vs1 games? So they can play their favorite maps, against people of their choosing? Lame.

Re: Sorry, where is everyone?
Did you download the hotfix (2.4.1)? Asking just in case.

Yeah, is there somewhere to see my Elite mod version to make sure?

There isn't a version number anywhere, but a quick way to check is to look at the Venerable Dreadnought for the Ultramarines DLC in the army painter. If it isn't half-invisible, you have 2.4.1

Thanks Windu, i don't see 'Ultramarines DLC' only Ultramarines in the list of races, it is visible for 'Ultramarines'.

Re: Sorry, where is everyone?
Oh. Then check the Legion of the Damned instead.
Re: Sorry, where is everyone?
I've queued for 1v1, but yeah, custom games get more people. Only got a game twice on ladder which is a shame, and the first game was vs Dark Heretic who I play with anyway.
The internal battery has run dry, the game can now be played. However, clock based events will no longer occur.

All good then, thanks.

Well that needs to change. Why are people only playing customs? I thought the Automatch would bring in more players and more games. Hosting and joining matches is a slow, clumsy affair and generally favors the host. This is in regards to 1VS1's at least, i dont play any other modes.
Re: Sorry, where is everyone?
Well i think ppl just dont want to play ranked games with still broken balance. Havent played like 6-7 months when i heard about matchmaking working decided to play again but now i can see there is no point to play ranked games. Balance which one we got right now is rly crappy.
very first days of elite mod was the best time i think.

Yep, you are surely wrong. Balance is pretty fine and compared to retail it's almost perfect imo. But there is no reason to play ranked when ELO system totally broken or i should say not working at all

Can someone get into the nitty-gritty about what is wrong with the ranked system? I've been told it has something to do with the fact that ranks aren't being kept track of anymore?

well retail isn't exactly a high standard and there are several glaring balance issues in elite at the moment, but I mostly agree.
re: custom vs matchmaking, I think people just prefer the larger map pool in customs and the ability to choose your opponent(s) in order to avoid woefully lopsided matchups. Both of those advantages are magnified in team games. I can't really see myself using matchmaking for 3v3s but it can be fun for 1s

Re: Sorry, where is everyone?
Plying 3v3 alongside via ranked is dumb. Why would anyone ever do that? You'de have to be so casual and lazy it is unbelievable.
But playing 3v3 ranked with pre-set teams is very fun in retail. In elite however I imagine the population won't sustain it which is a shame. You'll just end up vs the same dudes over and over and tbh the lack of an elo system is just really off-putting all around.

So am I to understand that people are not matched based on their skills but randomly (since Steams ranking seems to be shite)?

That's right, but steam ranking is not shite, steam ranking is actually one of the best the world knows. It is the in-game ranking that is terrible. Either way NEITHER are used atm; it is just completely random.

Most hosts are very open to change the map to someone both of you agree, or even is an advantage for you. Also the maps in the Matchmaking have bugs and such things I believe, while in custom game you can choose the fixed versions.
I actually trust the "custom lobby system" more than the Matchmaker. If I look into the custom lobbys, I see everyone who wants to play a 1v1. If I use the Matchmaker, I wouldn't be suprised if it didn't give me and another guy a game if we both were searching for 1v1s

Also as it was said, the matchmaking just puts random people together. No consideration for Skill at the moment.
I do not enjoy playing against vastly better or worse players.
If I play a against a vastly better or worse player through a customlobby, I know that thats what we both agreeded too. Then I can start firendly chat, and learn something /help the other player.
If the Skillthing was fixed, I would probably use the Matchmaker.
The biggest problem with custom games, is that you have to always check manually if someone is in your lobby already. I probably just need a second Monitor

I find match-making much more convenient. Whether he is better or worse than me, there is always something to learn and/or improve.
Custom games are clumsy, slow and often there is only a single open 1vs1 game at a time. Sometimes the host is AFK as he's bored waiting, players leave when they dislike your rating, ''X level only'' matches. Its much more exciting to hit that 'find match' button. You don't know who your opponent will be, what race, skill level etc until the match begins.
If everyone has the attitude of 'not using it' it becomes less viable. You may get 1 or 2 games where the skill rating disparity is big, but you would get that even with a working ELO system. People make alts all the time. Its the same in COH2 and SC2 as well.
Use it or lose it, people.

Re: Sorry, where is everyone?
The matchmaking has been very good to me actually, with one exception where I was noticeably better than the opponent I match against.
I think it's a great feature and one that people should definitely get into the habit of using. At least for 1v1s.

In first place because balance is made by 1v1 games. Still, even in team games balance is pretty good.
