The most inspiring game you have ever played

Postby egewithin » Thu 02 Jul, 2015 9:02 am

Just write down the most inspiring game you have ever played. I will start with my own :

PRINCE OF PERSIA - WARRIOR WITHIN
Image
Probably the most straight game in the trilogy of Prince of Persia. If we ignore the walking on walls and travel trough time things, there are no magics in this game. 100% melee fight! Ahahahahaaa! The other 2 games are fairy tail like storys. This one is all about a struggle of a real man.

-There might be spoilers but not sure about it. Naaah forget it!-
The climax of the game in my opinion where he killed Monica Belluci (Empress of time) and failed to change the time line, so Dahaka - The guy which you will always run and feel you toes on your ass - has still buisness with him. He had to die. His swords were broken, he was tired, alone, face to face with his fate. Maybe the old guy in the beggining of the game was right : '' You can not change your fate ''

The most golden shot of this game, the stage where he was in a tomb room like thing and says '' I am... the architecht of my own destruction. '' [after he finds out the Dahaka isn't gone after he kills Kaileena] '' So this is it. What is written in the timeline, cannot be changed. '' Dahaka smashes the iron grates at the top of him. He was so pissed off that he says '' Come for me then! '' And after he started to seek for a mask which will save him, the walls were started to fall down, it was Dahaka. He started running and said '' You had your chance to take me! You wont get another! ''

In the end of game, if you unlocked all life upgrades, you will have the only sword that can take down Dahaka. Aaaanndd kill him. Face to face. But rarely seen.
-I hope there weren't any of spoilers-

This game teached me to fight chest to chest, this game teached me that women are snakes, this game teached me even you are in a hopeless position, be pissed off, it works. :)

Maybe Emperor: Battle for Dune, because of the cool cutscenes before the final mission and some cool unit voicelines eg the Sardukar.

Also MGS3 and MGS2.
Ring ring. Call Da Boyz!
Theory.
I have never played vs a human......
b-b-b-but I watch 100s of casts.

Well, when i player Company of Heroes i become a big fun of WW2 and specially German army, weapons/vehicles.
When i played Silent Hunter 3 i become a big fun of everything about U-Boats.
When i played Dune (deep childhood) i become a big fun of Dune universe.
When i played Fallout 2 i start to interesting everything about nuclear war, post-apocalypses
So, i can just say - i was inspired by lot's of good games. One of them is Dawn of War. Thx to it i become a huge fun of WH40k.

Mass effect and War-hammer fire warrior.

Mass effect is simple one of the funnest and most exciting game(S) ive played. The story the characters and the cinematic's make it a breath taking journey and the 2nd and 3rd ones really show the actions and decisions u made during the 1st one. I ended up caring so much for the squads members and learning their background as well as the enemies and alien races that i even read books and lots of pages on the wiki simply because i wanted to be able to know things.

There are several moments that have massive twists or make u pick a decision, which after can lead u feeling like u just made a choice that will haunt u through the whole game and the people in the game respond to u due to it. Exploring worlds, Shooting aliens and Evil robots with romancing alien chicks and saving the universe:p enough said.

Fire warrior is a pretty shit game, u play a a tau fire warrior who can kill Chaos demon princes, lords of change and entire space marine squads....Which makes it just silly but the weapons and sound effects were great at the time and the few cinamatic's u see are epic with the opening one showing Terra and fleets guarding it to a imperial warship exchanging fire with a tau warship and the best exterminatus clip u will ever see. But the real reason i love it is it got me into war-hammer and dawn of war so cheers who ever made it lol
There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods."

Looks like I played the right Prince of Persia (only played Warrior Within :P). I was like 13 and Dahaka scared the shit out of me and the story was really compact but so heavy. And yes, killing him in the end after looking up a guide to find all the health upgrades so I can unlock the water sword was very rewarding. :)

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords

Game took one of my favorite franchises and made a deep, satisfying experience out of it with a level of writing that is super rare to find these days.
It basically ripped the plot of Planescape Torment, but who says that was such a bad thing?

I just wish they had the production time/money to finish it :( It's still really good, but parts of it are incomplete from what I remember. The beginning of the game dragged on a bit for me as well. I enjoyed the beginning of KotOR 1 more.

Also:
Bastion
Transistor
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
Ori and the Blind Forest
BioShock 1

I also really liked Star Wars Republic Commando...I really want someone to make a new Republic Commando :P

Dominions 4

When mages turn into artillery,
your god is literally an animal,
you cast a ritual to blind the eyes of enemy wizards far far away every single month because they keep spamming that global enchantment,
you run out of food because fat celestial beings are eating everything you wanted your army to eat,
a storm of arrows hits your massive wall of infantry and only your commander dies,
you join a tournament hoping that there is no-one famous there and it ends up being two titans murdering every participant and themselves,
you rout an army of barbarians but your archers keep firing and their leaders turn around and kill your infantry because infinite morale when wounded (damn you berserkers),
your experienced veteran army is beaten by a fresh rookie militia because EVERYONE in your army was crippled or had no hands,
you are never going to die of old age unless you are a lava-human wizard who can't make it far from the capital before diseases,
and cthulhu-people are turning your people insane so bad.

Random pictures of the game
Image
Apes (including apes on elephants, gorillas and a yoga-ape) vs Centaurs, Minotaurs and miscellaneous

Image
Jaguar warriors and supporting army taking the fight to the primates who this time have undead elephants and a fancy line of swords

Image
Almost 400 pages of manual. Never quite read or quickly went through it, but... it makes for a fine weapon if your club isn't heavy enough

Image
Celestial Carp, the mightiest god of them all

EDIT: Also a lot of games previously mentioned.
Republic Commando was great, I wish there would be a sequel coming up...

The Restoration patch for KOTOR2 has actually been finished for some time, and it really elevates the experience.
Good list!

I also wish there was a Republic Commando sequel :(

Warcraft 1/2
Played it my very good friends home, because we didn't have a PC at that time, but we did have a SEGA Genesis and misc. other consoles. That game got me into strategy games.

Starcraft 1
The very first PC game that I got. I remember the day I got it as if it was yesterday. It was after a karate-leason and my mother had bought it as a gift. I've spend so many hours in that game, and eventually the PC started breaking down, or the disc. In order to play the game, I had to enter and re-insert into the computer, FOR ALMOST AN HOUR straight JUST TO GET IT WORKING. I was so eager and patient, and I even partook in some small cups in that.

Sonic 2/3 & Sonic and Knuckles
We originally had Sonic 1, then we got the 2nd one, and we got Sonic & Knuckles, but we didn't realise that it was a follow-up from Sonic 3. So again, our longtime friend who had the Warcraft 1/2 had the Sonic 3, but he didn't have Sonic 1 or 2. So we kept going back and forth just to play them through. Played it so many times, and had a blast with it.

Streets of Rage
I think this was the game that bonded the band of brothers in the family together. We still remember some of the quotes from that game. It has a very special place in my heart.

World of Warcraft
I played this game so stupidly much. I was top 10 in both 2v2 and 3v3 (I think we got top 5 in 3s, our 2s was slightly below) in the Cyclone BG during S2/S3/Early-S4). At the very same time, I was also playing with the #2 best EU progressive raiding guild. I was hard-to-the-core back then. But I don't regret one bit from the time spent in that game. So much joy, and so many friends that I'm still in contact with. I still wish there is a game that comes out and shakes you up like this game did.

Final Fantasy 6-12
I'm a sucker for the stories, I probably like FF9 the most tho, I really liked the setting in it. Final Fantasy 12 is a generous pick, I wasn't particulary fond of the characters for the most part, except for Balthier & Fran. And the lifeless dungeons were abit off-putting. I really digged the pre-rendered enviroment settings more. Also, Final Fantasy 13 never happend.

There's more to the list, but cba.

If we're going for inspiring, then Deus Ex Human Revolution has given me the most inspiration of anything. The storyline was not anything I had explored but it struck accord, and I've been hooked with the game since and looking forward to Mankind Divided. It's given me lots of ideas for my own story arcs.
The internal battery has run dry, the game can now be played. However, clock based events will no longer occur.

Only one game is impossible to name. So here is my list:

Starting with the 2 games I got in touch with PC Gaming. The Settlers 2 and Anno 1602. Both great RTS. Next in the list are Gothic 1 and 2. RPG at it's finest. Worth to mention are also the series of Mass Effect, Bioshock and Witcher. Damn these Games are an epic tale.

And of course DoW.

Gonna have to play KotOR 2 again soon. And maybe more mods will be made for it again now that it has Steam Workshop support.
