Any way to prevent drop hacking?

Postby Ruthless at Heart » Sat 04 Jul, 2015 8:53 pm

Hey guys,

Long time player here (off and on), I assume some of you may recognize me / have played with me. I have played since the original Dow2 beta. I've been getting back into things a bit in Elite and 1v1, and I've noticed that drophacking has been extremely prevalent at least for me since player records were re-implemented and especially now with Ranked back in. I seem to get drophacked quite often now any time I win, especially against "good" players. I can't be sure, but I'm assuming they are thinking oh this guy isn't Tex or Noisy or whoever, I'm not supposed to lose to this guy. Let me drophack this time to preserve my record or whatever and I'll play better next time.

This really saps my enjoyment of the game. Just wondering if:

1. Other people have been noticing this is happening with greater frequency?
2. Is there any way for the mod to stop this action or automatically penalize the drophacker (e.g., if internet goes out it's an auto-loss or whatever)?

Apologies if this has been touched on before - it's my first time on this particular Dow2 forum.

Thanks,
Ruthless

As much as I find drop-hacking quite a bad behaviour, now that we don't use a relevant ranking system I'd say this issue has a low priority.

Isn't the 1v1 ranked system based on any sort of implied ranking through points earned? Or is that broken and its more "find a match" for fun?

The latter.

There is no trueskill/elo/actual legit leaderboard that makes any sense anymore.

I have indeed played you before, I probably lost.

Erm... what is drop hacking? I'm too bad at interneting to know.
The internal battery has run dry, the game can now be played. However, clock based events will no longer occur.

Cutting internet connection so that the match gets "dropped" and thus isn't scored/recorded in any rankings because the match ended prematurely through means supposedly out of the player's control.

If I got it right, it should be the above.

So... I hear you refuse to repent.

Drop hacking to me was always more sophisticated and much more annoying.

'Drop hacking' to me referred to the thing where somehow the opponent makes their foes game freeze such that their foe has to force the closure of DOW and thereby 'quitting' the game which makes it so the 'drop hacker' gets a win regardless of whatever the state of the game was at the time.

That. Is. Frustrating.

But none of this matters anymore since leaderboards are beyond broken, steam elo isn't tracked anymore and the stats are meaningless since they are bugged beyond belief not to mention easily adjustable anyway...

Oh. I thought internet getting disconnected forced a loss. At least COH 2 says it's a loss when I get disconnected.
