Uh oh, I hope this won't be a big disappointment

Re: DoW3 confirmed? :p What do you think?
Most cases, those are pretty true. In some scenarios, people register domains and sell them off - but this case is that it's SEGA with the domain. This seems pretty legitimate and true. Don't SEGA also pop by once in a while at some press event during Q3 also?
I mean, I've seen so many hints at Warhammer for such a long time, that it's only a matter of time now. I would have hoped that they would do something at E3, but eh-ho, can't get everything you want.

Well, it could just be that Sega is buying it to prevent anyone else from getting it in case they want to use it in the future. But who knows. Also, I think I remember seeing that Sega was going to wait for an upcoming trade show to showcase stuff. Can't remember which one.

I need DoW III to stall and stall until I can get a real computer.
But I'm probably the only one.
But I'm probably the only one.
The internal battery has run dry, the game can now be played. However, clock based events will no longer occur.

Precisely. It's pretty evident they've got something cooking up their sleeves. It's also one of Relics biggest franchises as well, and people have been craving for DoW3 for quite a while. I also think if it's released in 1-2 years, it's a pretty good time to do so as well. This year you'll be competing with Legacy of the Void (If people will even bother, since SC2 has been on a massive decline), so it's a good moment to start reeling people in.
Please remove retreat function and bring back morale for consistency and player control. Keep base-building like CoH'ish, if not abit more flexed out, but not DoW1ish) and DoW2 VO's, and I'm sold. Also, keep it 4 factions. Space Marines, Eldar, Chaos & Orks, which was the oldshool DoW1 original factions. Or you know, just anything - the new codexes gives you so much stuff to play around with. It'd be fun as hell to design and balance those. If anyone can make Centurions badass, it's probably Relic.

I hope it will be a game that I can play it on low options. Otherwise, it will cost me much more that I can imagine.

Good news but elite mod's future unclear...
Re: DoW3 confirmed? :p What do you think?
Here's to hoping.
Well frankly even if DoW3 comes and Elite dies as a result (which would be quite likely) I don't think there'll be too many regrets. We've had a pretty good run and kept this awesome game alive for years after Relic abandoned it.
DoW3 is the only way to really bring this franachise back to it's former glory. I just hope they've learned from their mistakes and take their time with the release and don't release it half assedly way too early like they did with DoW2 and end up scaring off a significan't portion of the new blood.

Re: DoW3 confirmed? :p What do you think?
Obviously we all just go to Dow 3: Elite Mod. What's your concerns?
Re: DoW3 confirmed? :p What do you think?
There is a still possibility of '' DoW3 sucks '' In that case, we can still move with the Elite mod. But it will be very boring.
If it is going to be an amazing game after all expension packs, we can shut down elite mod and move on with DoW3. But this mod is not something that you can just throw away. Naaah, we can think about later. First, we need to know does DoW3 coming

Re: DoW3 confirmed? :p What do you think?
DoW III will always be crap to someone. Undoubtedly many DoW II players will hate it at first and we'll all love the game we're used to. Let's hope we can all adjust.

Re: DoW3 confirmed? :p What do you think?
Seriously, allow us to customize our armies through cosmetic unlocks, both that can be purchased, as well as in-game rewards for playing. Different Chaos Horns that you can outfit your dudes, different kind of teef for orks, variety of purity seals, armor sets for Space Marines. Different glowing soulstones for Eldar, and armor pieces. Variety sets of Battle-scarred armors, or fresh out the gate.
You just need players to feel that their army is unique to them, and it would really encourage people to just customize, look badass. Post their own unique armies. It even goes hand in-hand with the micro-transactions that seems to be the thing now. You wouldn't need to soil the games reputation, since the cosmetics would only be visuals, and you could even have a weekly-rotation of 50% sales to encourage people to buy something.
Hell, reward the singleplayers as well. Completing the singleplayer experience unlocks different cosmetics for your multiplayer army, which gives value to some people to see them in-action, or whatever. It's the one that that's been on my mind forever, and I would personally love that.

With the way they've been approaching CoH2 DLC, it doesn't seem very likely that they'll stick to cosmetic only. I hope they keep it cosmetic as well, but honestly, they'll probably have pay-for content too.Caeltos wrote:It even goes hand in-hand with the micro-transactions that seems to be the thing now. Re: DoW3 confirmed? :p What do you think?
Yeah, but it seems like such a conlifcting way to approach to the market if you ask me, since it can't have a high-impact on alienating playerbase from one-another. Specifically if it's a singleplayer DLC content - say Theatre of War esque type of thing that is introduced to DoW3, that would be absolutely rubbish. You want everyone to be in the same boat.
Approach it with the way how MOBAS, CS:GO and other succesful franchises are doing it. Content that can be sold, are purely cosmetic, and can be made by the players. Meaning that they don't need to invest all-too heavily on hiring people to do the work. You essentially have players doing work for them, of course - if they get approved to be sold as in-game cosmetics, they can get a cut out if it as well. Altho, I suppose you don't want a monopoly on a small-sized game if it becomes less then succesful, and there's only a handful of modders(etc), but it does draw an indirect playerbase since it might have the encouragement to get paid for work, by not even being employed - so to speak.
The community can get sown together by those activities, and what I think is healthy for any game, is the community-made effort to thrive together, cause discussions - make plans, and deliever/discover new ideas/content and so on and forth. If none of those things are present, a community cannot flourish, or grow to become bigger. I know it might be irrelevant, but GameReplays (DOW2 section) used to be a hot-topic for discussions, and what-have-you, and when things started dying down, people stopped caring - and now it's a shadow of its former self. But in this forum, we've got activity, it's ever-growing due to the continous nourishment that we're providing.
They need to realise that, by having commander/esq commanders as a micro-transactions will do nothing good but shooting themselves in the foot, and it also paints a bad picture of things to come. You don't want the discussion of pay-to-win, it needs to established straight from the get-go that it will not be the case. I mean, even for singleplayer games, it becomes worrying for people that if it's a pay-to-win game, see Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain as a reference on that case. It's a relative new discovery, and people are worried, and some are boycotting it. This wasn't evident prior to the news. It seems so mindboggling and dumb, that publishers are so out of touch with the reality of the perception people have of those type of approaches to the micro-transaction business.
I fear that you're right however, pay-for content will most likely exist, but it doesn't hurt to be hopeful. It it does indeed have pay-to use content and etc, it's already doomed not be a competetive game, or even to be taken seriously. It'll end up just like Dawn of War 2, you'll have the few players to play it casually, and have fun - but fun only goes as far as balance dictates, and when balance is influenced by your wallet, people get upset, which means they'll eventually look elsewhere, or just play the older games.

Re: DoW3 confirmed? :p What do you think?
Yeah, I hope companies do start realizing how much a negative impact content DLC has on future sales and consumer interest. Games like Path of Exile do a great job of monetizing cosmetic-only DLC. They consistently push out updates, have a huge new expansion - free - coming in a few days, and it is constantly supplemented by cosmetics, new leagues, balance patches, and whatever other additional free new content they think up. Having new stuff for people to do consistently always makes them more interested and more likely to invest into your game. Granted, Path of Exile is a very different genre and doesn't have the initial pay wall, but the model remains fairly consistent across many genres, like CS:GO and MOBAs as you mentioned.
And with fewer and fewer RTS games being available, especially with a micro focus (games like Planetary Annihilation and Grey Goo I'd consider macro focus, which I'm not a fan of personally), Relic has, and has had for a while, a niche in the market to fill. And if they can do it well, and give people a reason to keep playing, they can do well for themselves I think, without having to resort to paid content DLC. Throw in ladder seasons, fun game modes, in-game automated weekly or bi-weekly tournaments that award cosmetics or something to the winner, community map making competitions, art design competitions to have your artwork in the game somewhere, anything that rewards community interaction.

I couldn't agree more. But I fear relic isn't that bright....
Re: DoW3 confirmed? :p What do you think?
Fuck yes! I would be so happy if they made all their DLC purely cosmetic stuff:
-lore based skins or characters; (hundreds to create and sell for $1 each)
-silly internet memes;
-wacky or juvenile humour;
-custom announcer like Snoop Dogg for Call of Duty.
Eg $2 for Goku hair on your commander; $5 for trollface meme on hero, $10 for a giant penis hanging from betweeen you Hive Tyrant's legs, $15 for giant penis on any female hero. Big boobs, bling golden guns etc.
Question for modders: is DLC animations for units possible? Eg they could sell silly idle animations: scratch butt, pissing on the ground, Tyranids that drop turds, giving the finger to the player or each other, hero smokes cigar etc.

I don't get it because I cant remember ever seeing what those games look like.
But if you mean the models on DOW2 or 3 are much more complicated and too detailed to do such things I understand.
I just wan't Relic to make their extra cash through pure cosmetic DLC, no matter how stupid or expensive, instead of milking customers by charging for game content that should be in the base game or a full expansion.

Can it be true? Is the myth coming true or is this another one of Tzeentch schemes...Guess we will have to wait and see but still nice to see.
