Overwatch question

Postby 531st » Thu 24 Sep, 2015 7:09 pm

Dunno if I should create a thread about it but i guess there is no miscellaneous questions thread around. The question is: seeing how much ppl (including me) got hurt by overwatch, is it possible to make overwatch one unit only build, not repeating every time u got resources. Maybe add a trigger that overwatches the unit again as soon as u got resources and started building thus de-overwatching it since its already on overwatch? Or just canceling the overwatch condition?

A fix to this is to not use overwatch :) The game is about micro, and it already doesn't require as much as some other games.

This. Don't use overwatch unless you can remember to turn it off.

Ok, I'll bite. I like this idea a ton.

It would be great to change like this if we could. I doubt it's possible, cause things like building queues feel like "deep code". But why not remove a micro sync if we can? I'd prefer if you could add units to the queue without paying for them, then they deduct the cost and start building once they are set. Ideally, overwatch would build once, then toggle off.

Anything that keeps the focus on microing units is a good change.

Btw, can we have overwatch for HQ upgrades too? So we can prevent floating.

HOWEVER

I have intermittently pestered Caeltos about this and he said I quote:
"Lol no, would make eldar op*"

It seems clear to me that besides Caeltos just being an eldar/chaos/sm/nids/ig/gk fanboi the answer is the same as before; just git gud and push
F1->A (you are using grid keys right?) when you have 125 power.

*Never actually said this.

Maybe its possible to make 2 variants of it - like clicking one time will turn overwatch on for building only 1 unit, and clicking twice will turn standard overwatch. Third click - overwatch off.
And to distingusih between these variants - overwatch for 1 unit could be shown by dotted lines.

As someone who often gets rekt by over watch, I hate this idea. My micro should be better and I deserve to eat my fail.

I remember back in the day when over watch didn't exist

I see no reason to make the game's micro skill cap lower. If you want to use overwatch, then you should remember to turn it off when you don't need it. The game should punish from errors after all.

Doesn't the game punish the new players enough all ready?

As a way to reduce the gap between the two groups, surely we should be looking at things like this?
