Visual Effects making things seem worse than they are...

Postby welshy » Fri 02 Oct, 2015 4:06 pm

Hey,

Is anyone out there like me when I think that some of the in-game visual effects make the fight look worse than it is. I can best explain this through an example.

If you take the Devastator SM squad with Vengeance rounds activated, the effects of these rounds hitting the enemy lines makes it look like these rounds are doing area of effect and plasma damage. For those who know that they don't do this it is ok, but for beginners and low-mid players this might force an unnecessary retreat?

I am sure there are more examples out there? Maybe the Tzeentch Global with the swirling bluey bolts.

Also maybe there are some effects that should be shown to be more devastating like the Warboss's Spiky armour which can shred light melee infantry so quickly and without a lot of tell. Yes there are the sound effects but when you are scanning the field, checking on all your units, you might not pick it up?

Discuss :D

No problems for me.

You can select any commander and see what wargear is equipped. You can also notice the damage your unit are taking...

The only visual effects I have problems with are the Psycannon firing animation and the Nurgle shrine reinforcement aura since they disproportionately tank frame rates.

I find the subtle effects to be the larger issue.

this is why things like doom got the mark target treatment.

And i am still baffled by how easy it is to hide a plague cloud in a guardsmen squad.. still

I seem to remember that the Psycannon firing actually tanks framerate because it's churning out loads of new models, unless that was fixed.
The internal battery has run dry, the game can now be played. However, clock based events will no longer occur.

I certainly agree with the explosive rounds on the heavy bolter - it makes me assume it is an explosive attack with AOE. I'd rather they change the bullets to another colour the way kraken rounds do.
