A lot of the Commanders, as well as some units can switch between melee and ranged weapons, and this usually increases their melee skill.
Some cases are not specifically stated though, I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not for a fact the melee skill changes are consistent when a hero switches his weapon?
Here are some examples:
Apot switches from melee to bolter, does he lose 10 melee skill to 60?
PC switches to Plague Fist, does he get +10 to 70 melee skill?
Raptors switch from swords to meltas, do they lose 10 melee skill?
Does the Autarch lose 10 melee skill when switched to her Fusion gun?
Anyone have any idea?
Melee skill across heroes when switching from melee/ranged weapons

Pretty sure Apo loses melee skill. PC gains 10 with the Power Fister. Not sure about Craptors. I would assume they lose 10 melee skill but can't say for sure.

No idea about the Autarch.

The only one of those examples that changes the melee skill is the Plague Champion's power fist. He gains 10 melee skill with it equipped. I must have just forgotten to add it to the Codex.
Generally, if there is no mention of a change in melee skill, no change happens.
