Help - Ork timings!

Postby Tranca » Tue 29 Dec, 2015 9:43 pm

Hello, everyone! :D

Let me preface by saying that I have gone back as far as 6 pages searching for a good answer, but was unable to find anything. So, if I missed something, please let me know! Also, I main Ork!!!

An example of what I believe to be a timing in DoW2 can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eOJofCQmRY
Edit: MRT20 Finals G2.

The concept, to me, seems simple enough in that game: Macro hard -> walker timing -> lawlz
So simple that it even got me a few wins, and in some games against MUUCH better players, a 'wow' (even though they rekt me, anyway) :D

I'm not sure how to expand on the concept of a timing, but I'll give it a try...?

Yaay's build gets out a walker at ~5 minutes. He also has a loota squad, a sluggah squad, and 2 shootah squads. Once he has his walker, he goes to gen bash, or do other things in the map that give him a nice advantage because of his fast walker (This is all explained in another thread, by the way.)

https://www.dawnofwar.info/forum/viewto ... f=11&t=718

Point being, at 5 minutes Yaay has a timing with a walker. He can develop a push around said timing because he has reached that point in his build. What he does afterwards is up to him... but the build he used set him up very nicely for the mid game. Said build can also be replicated in actual games AND it's flexbile enough to allow for other paths. You can watch all his games in MRT to know what I mean. He basically used the same build every single game, with very minor adjustments. That is not outplaying, that is following a build order that allows you to adapt.

I hope that cleared some things up! If not, let me know and I'll try to add more! >.<

With that said... teach me timings, or build orders that set me up nicely, please!!! lol

For instance, if it's a fast stormz build - What should I do before I get them out? What options do I have once they are out? What are good capping paths to take to get them out as quickly as possible, etc!

Insofar I trust that the build I linked will work for all Chaos matchups. So, BOs for every other Ork MU would be greatly appreciated... especially against Nids and IG... I hate Nids and IG...!!!!211211121oneoneone!!!evelen!!!

Thank you all in advance, and I'm sorry for the wall of text!!!

It's unclear what you are asking. Are you requesting fast tech builds?

The video you linked had more to do with the skill of the ork player than specifically the fact that he teched straight to the deff dread. Forcing the heretics off the power node early and capping the rest of the map, combined with smart engagement and pulling back when needed were the bigger deal. You can still get rekt if you try to fast tech, but fail to properly manage your units or bash gens.

Note that despite the late advancement to tier 2, Riku still managed to get out AV units and make pushes to regain parts of the map. If Yaay had not been as smart in his engagements, he could have easily lost the deff dread and his advantages.

Unfortunately, I'm not an Ork player, nor am I particularly great at the game (and it's been ages since I've played), so I don't really advice to give. I would suggest clarifying your question so one of the better players can understand what you're asking, and chime in for you.

I found these:

They aren't a solution for nids or IG, but he uses a consistent build order versus eldar and executes them rather effectively. The last game shows Tex making a huge comeback after being down by 300 VPs.

In general, I would suggest looking for replays by Tex/Texaneous. If I recall correctly, he was one of the last players to switch off from Orks in retail after they continually got nerfed. He stubbornly held on while they were UP, so he's likely to know how to squeeze every last drop of effectiveness out of them as a race.

You probably don't remember but there was a lengthy period of time where orks were quite UP.

Sup, OP! ^_^

I think I am starting to understand a little bit what you mean by wanting to learn Ork timings! Since, I know that you also like to play macro games, here's a neat little timing for you that will help you protect your power farm from alot of the early pressure you'll be getting !

Try this:
Mekboy - Slugga -> Shoota
Rush to 2 power nodes.
1 power node gets 2 gens asap.
Sit back, relax, and by the time you reach 30 power, you will have hit 240req, as well.
Make loota.
Make second shoota.

This opening is a little gimmicky, in that it strays away from the normal double shoota openings, and opts for a faster loota. The loota is mainly there to defend until you get your second shoota out. (Think of it as getting an early tank in tvz to defend all-ins)

Note: It works especially well on maps that allow for an easy defense of your power farm.

I only have 370 hours into this game, but the opening was taken from a player that I have yet to see any "pro" beat, other than yaay. Said player also likes macro games, so if he uses it and barely loses with it, you should do well with it too, provided you practice!

Good luck on becoming top 5 OP! :D
