Problem with cope's tools?

Postby Pondera » Sat 19 Mar, 2016 7:46 am

Over the past couple of days, I've attempted to dabble a bit with the structure of the elite mod using Cope's tools, but each and every single time, simply changing a value in an .rbf file renders it unreadable by both the toolbox and by the game itself, leading to no end of frustration. What exactly is going on here? Is Cope's tools outdated and no longer useful, or is it no longer possible to directly edit Elite, or DoW2 in general, this way?

How are you opening the files? Are you doing it by just directly opening an RBF? It should work if you open SGAs.

Also, if the file is edited in Cope's, it will automatically be extracted to a folder, which will make it unreadable by the game unless you've edited your .module file to read that folder, and you have -dev mode enabled in your startup options.

yes, I've been meddling about with the eliteattrib.sga file, and after I make my changes and save, the toolbox will not open those files again. I also tried opening the mod with the .module file to guide the toolbox, but that ended spectacularly badly. Had to reinstall the entire mod because of a scar error that appeared at the start of the game. Not sure how that managed to pop up. All I wanted to do was modify the requisition income of a strategic point. I even followed your exact instruction in another post on how to do that.

In Cope's toolbox make a new mod and pick Elite.module as base module. Deselect "Repack of Gameattrib.sga". Now you should be able to make edits without problem. Go to tools->release mod to package the changes in SGAs and get a launcher etc
