Counter to Warp Spiders spamm?

Postby SiesmicSquall » Wed 27 Apr, 2016 7:45 pm

This maybe an outdated thing, but a long time ago in vanilla days i was playing against an eldar (forgot the hero) as SM and got totally wrecked by 2 (or 3?)x Guardians + 3x Warp Spiders. I went for classic Scouts + Tacs + ASM build but I seemed to get focused down pretty fast by the ranged blob. I stupidly went for a dreadnaught, of course, thinking he had only soft AV. To my surprise, 3x WS av bombs added up nicely to an exploding dreadnaught.

Back then i concluded that the counter to WS is just more ranged (knockdown also helps). Should I have just spammed more tacs, more scouts? What are typically the options these days?

Thanks

The best option is always to tech up if you encounter warp spider spam. They do little damage to termies so thats your best counter. Also P-Dev can be quite devastating. A single good shot is all it needs to bleed all his floating resources out of him :)

I had a 3v3 game recently where all my opponents were WSE and all they did was spam warp spiders. It was an annoying game but by teching up we actually won.

I have always just countered with Tac spam and Banner on FC or assault cannon Termies. Asked Choko about it and he said to use Plasma Devs. Haven't tried it yet, but have been meaning to. You can also counter with a Predator if you constantly micro it so it is beyond their teleport and nade range. If you want to use a Razerback you will have to upgrade with armour, keep a Scout or two nearby for repair, and be ready to pop a smoke grenade.

Tac spam with a sternguard thrown in > Warp spider spam. A well microed razorback is pretty sweet too. Bleed the spiders all day.

Tac spam with FC Shield and banner support.

Use Hellfire on Sternguard.

Thanks for you input. I suspected tac spamm maybe the answer, but I will try the pdev and see how that works out.

Seems like razorback is more of a risk/bait unless you have a plan to make him pay somehow on closing the distance with it.

What about a whirlwind? The knockdown will keep them from teleporting constantly ...

WW suffers the same problem as the RB, which is the need to be constantly microed or it dies to nades + force melee, but considering it lacks smoke and is slower and doesn't give you map control like a RB, if you gonna micro that much and going with 2xtacts you might as well go RB and take the map with them.
