OM Dread Inferno Cannon

Postby egewithin » Sat 14 May, 2016 4:43 pm

This thing is useless. Not even worth buy on a Dread at all. I like the claw and the plasma cannon upgrades very much, real good choices to make, but this flamer thing is not.

It doesn't have the damage that it deserves. It does 15 dps only. Even a full Purgation squad does 20,25 dps. And Purgation has suppression effect with a disposble snare ability. And they have more range eather! ( 27 vs 30 ) I don't know how true it is to compare with SM Termie H.F. but that thing does 44 dps. I mean, I am getting a Dreadnought, a tank even. It must do better than this.

I am not going to suggest any kind of ideas apart from damage buff of cource, but I want some improvement.

It does do some courage damage actually, not the same as Purgation but eventually it suppresses. You could give the suppression a boost, I think Cael added it to give the Inferno dread some utility.
The internal battery has run dry, the game can now be played. However, clock based events will no longer occur.

Ye, it's just bad. Something you buy only to humiliate your opponent. As for how to fix it, it needs some kind of buff. Forest used to suggest moving the maelstrom ability onto the flamer upgrade instead of the claw upgrade, but I don't think that would be sufficient. Still, would be a good first step imo.

The best suggestion was actually to give it a universal snare of 25%. Just like what the banewolf used to have. It makes perfect sense as this allows the dread to retain AV ability even though it loses melee resist with the flamer, and also makes the dread into a much more reliable melee screen.

It's fucking trash and barely playable in the ork/ig matchup, and even then only in very extreme situations, you will always be better off with the fist/plasma cannon or even just sticking to the default bolter since that actually does dps

There's a lot of directions you could go with it:
-more range
-improved melee damage (80 dps? 90 dps?)
-more abilities: either AoE or single target where the dread coats enemy models with flame that debuffs them in some way, like less speed or damage
-make the flamer replace the claw instead of the bolter so the dread is a pure ranged variant (this would also have to reduce its melee dps to almost 0)--I think Indrid suggested this a few times. Would probably require a lot more testing and I don't even know if the animations would work right.

I would add 3 range to the flamer and take away maelstorm from the melee dread and give it to the flamer one as Atlas said, which would also fix the melee dread being kinda op since maelstorm got knockback added to it...

also Tex what you suggested would be fine in theory, but a passive movement speed reduction would stack with the suppression to completely immobilize enemy units, you can already see this with the bile spewer+havoc suppression, and 100% snares are generally not good for the game...

No suppression.

Just a flat speed debuff to all targets.

By T2, you aren't going to be using flamer purgs anyway so there will be no suppression stack to worry about. And honestly, if you buy a flamer dread and flame purgs to completely shut down an elite infantry squad like nobs or genestealers, I don't think its a big deal that this combo has a potential for almost 0 move speed. Huge investment that will only have a real impact on suppressable melee units.
