Not even worth trying for new players?
Not even worth trying for new players?
Why is everyone in your community such a fucking cunt to new players? Do you not want a community at all? Every single match I go into has people throwing a fit about the fact that I've only been playing for a few days. Everyone expects me to play like a 4346512462374623 hour veteran. I can't even play the game at this point. I'm US PST and can't make the times for your beginner's club and all I get is children acting like assholes in the pub matches. The one match I did win had some child ragequit causing a sync error at the very end, so I lost my replay and stats for the match. Why should I play this?
Re: Not even worth trying for new players?
Because sooner rather than later you'll start to get good and start behaving like us 4346512462374623 hour veteran cunts.
Also, it's the only decent looking Warhammer40k rts/rtt right now.

There is begginers club tho
Re: Not even worth trying for new players?
This applies to any and all games that has a team match option. You should make the effort to join the beginner club as it's close to the best option you have since in there you'll also get advice on what you do based on what faction you're playing. Failing that, just host a game with a requirement on the title such as below certain hours or below a certain quantity of matches.

Read the game titles, play 1v1s to start with or make your own beginner/nubs 2s/3s or find like minded people, the beginner's club might play at an hour that doesn't fit you, but you might ask if there are people available to play at other hours, as things stands now, adding friends on steam is free.

Not when every match lasts 6-7 minutes and everyone wants to talk mad shit instead of saying what the fuck I did wrong. Its becoming extremely tiring.

Why on earth would your solution be to play 1v1 if you are brand new to the game? So you can have a 3 min match and give the other guy a free win?

When I make a room called '3v3 beginner - new', there comes level 60 people, or it sits there for an hour with no one joining. And then when I kick the level 60 people, the few other folks leave as well.

Are you actually asking to be told whether to play the game or not?
Watch casts, check your own replays thoroughly to see what went wrong, there are multiple ways to better yourself. Asking in the forums if it's worth it to play due to being new is not one. Everyone was new at one point.

That's normal, just kick them and you do have to wait, this game has a player base of 1000 players at peak hours, which are split between retail/elite mod and many of these just play the campaign/the last stand, there's a lot to wait.

Because it's the fastest way to learn the game. And 1v1 is easier: you won't get double teamed and you need to keep track of only one opponent. And no one will blame you if you lose.

Considering I always found noob friendly games and was supported by more experienced players I'm guessing it's possibly your attitude. Try asking for help rather than slagging off us cunts

I see more low skilled players than high so you shouldn't have anything to worry about. People just expect you to learn the basics of the game to the point where you know when to get power generators and to not throw away your army for no reason.
Go to the Strategy Discussion forum and post for help there so people can explain to you the basics. Post a replay here and then link it to your post so they can watch to see how you play.

Re: Not even worth trying for new players?
To be honest, it was far easier to find good 1v1 matches as a beginner, as opposed to 3v3. IMO 3v3 is a mess and ends up enabling a lot of people to play the blame game instead of DoW. You end up being singled out as a handicap. In 1v1, I hosted "1v1 low/mid" lobbies everytime I could play.
Also, being in the PST is not an excuse... Look at Batpimp (Seattle area gamer) who gets matches all the time. I was also in that area until I moved to CST... It's an 8 hour difference to GMT, which still lines up well with the FA time zone (morning to noontime usually have good lobbies up). Even now, I can get 1v1 or 2v2 matches almost anytime until about 11PM (9PM your time).
If you're talking about getting good, ask anybody here and they will be more than willing to help... And I mean ask. I have asked people to practice with, watch my replays, and give me advice - almost no one has said no, and everyone has been very helpful.

Re: Not even worth trying for new players?
Wooooow I entered a dark salt mine here.
Ok let's begin with something quite simple to grasp that we're all ignoring: I'm fairly sure there are contextual factors like work/travel times/family life that keep our new friend here from playing, which is a sad necessity of life, so let's remember it please. His timezone is not good for this game what with most of the community playing in European hours, and I know a lot of people in that timezone will be less connected with the community due to the fact that they won'#t be in contact with those who are, who play in European hours.
Now, let's begin proper. Hello! Welcome to the forums, I'm sorry for the salty start, but you kind of invited it. I do understand your problem, we all had it when we started so I'm glad you're looking for answers. I'm glad you have noticed FA, they're a great bunch, but what time generally do you join them? because although FA starts at 8pm GMT they on weekends often play well into the night, so maybe if you're free on a Friday or Saturday, just come in and see if some of them are still around. I imagine the Muricans like Ordie and Happystickman will be around and happy to help.
As said before, if you can't play with FA all the time, make your own lobbies called "Low level" or "new players", maybe join other nooby games if you can when they pop up and try to make friends with the receptive people. The key is perseverance, get friends, get skilled, and you'll enjoy yourself. 1v1 is also an option, though it might be a bit daunting at first, it can be quite a challenging test of skill, so if no 3v3s are available, see if you can play newer people in 1v1.
I must touch upon your opening though, too. Calling the community "cunts", even if not directed at forum members themselves... not going to gather much positive attention. By all means, we all get cross, but think about it before you unload, as this mess of a thread shows us.
I hope I can help you with this wall.
Also, deleted one particular derogatory post, please don't add insult to injury.

The internal battery has run dry, the game can now be played. However, clock based events will no longer occur.
Re: Not even worth trying for new players?
Ooohkay. So a couple things. Don't post here calling everybody in the community a cunt... Preferably call no one a cunt. It won't get you anywhere. You will get insults and it does make you seem like one of those children acting like assholes you mentioned in your post.
Now to the matter at hand. If you wish to get better, play some 1v1s and try to analyze the replays. You can also ask for help in the strategy section and you will get help from multiple people.
Out of experience I can say that doing 3s with someone new can be rather frustrating since it is basically a 2v3. Getting constantly doubled while your teammate does stuff that makes no sense is rather annoying. Though it would be best for all to remain constructive and give useful advice instead of calling someone a nubtard. It is rather hard in the middle of the game due to a couple reasons:
1) the game chat itself is not meant for stuff like that.
2) they won't be watching over everything you do so they can't really give specific advice
3) there is stuff that requires ones attention (playing the game) and apm making one unable to write lenghty tips for someone
So there I would suggest to sticking to the noob lobbies even if it sometimes takes s while to get a game.
Also ask around in the FA thread if there is someone from your timezone who could play with you.

Re: Not even worth trying for new players?
I understand where you are coming from, in some random 3v3s you really get the worst people (though no one of them I have ever seen in this forum).
I agree with some others here that the best option is to play 1v1s.
Reasons being:
1. It's way easyer to get a beginner 1v1 going then a beginner 3v3, because for 1v1 you need one other person, for 3v3 you need 5.
2. While I have no problem with a beginner in my team, I can understand the frustrations of basically playing 2v3. I also understand the Idea of wanting to get a grasp on the game, without being destroyed in the first 3 minutes, but that doesn't work out if your 2 team mates are not able to 2v3 the enemy team.
3. You will learn 10 times as much in a 1v1. You might think you don't learn anything just getting destroyed, but: In a 1v1 your opponent can give you mostly accurate feedback. He concentrates fully on you and mostly has time after a game to give you tipps and pointers. "Hey, with what build do you have normally problems in this matchup? Maybe we can play a rematch where I try to do that."
Just be open with your enemy. Tell them you are new and would like tipps. A lot of people will even go easy on you if you ask them (though questionable for learning, it could give you more fun). If someone is helpfull, and willing to do a rematch, add them on Steam. Ask them if they would play you with a handicap. (No powerbashing or no T2).
Because most people in this community are not cunts. Most people will gladly help you, gladly play against you with a handicap, gladly spectate you and tell you over Steam what to do better next time, or even coach you in a game.
You just have to ask one of the 4 nice people in a game, and not listen to the 1 asshole.
(That reminds me, you could also try balancing the lobby before hand, so that 2 very experienced players are on your team, against 3 middling opponents. Then it's a fair match in the end.)
Edit: Or you could just wait for DoW3 Kappa.

Re: Not even worth trying for new players?
I don't blame you for being pissed off at the cliquey nature of DOWII players, you do have a legitimate grievance (even if showing up to a forum and calling everyone in the community cunts isn't the most graceful way to express it). I feel that getting good at Elite is like trying to get a job nowadays - you need experience to get a job, and you need a job to get experience. I also agree that a lot (not all) of the random people you encounter on Elite mod are absolute miserable cunts.
However, most of the people who are very selective about who they play with do it for the sake of fun and fairness. Because DOWII Elite is a very skill-taxing game, It is nearly impossible to have a fun game when there is a huge degree of disparity between player skill levels. The highest level players could spend a year training newbs and most of them would still not reach the level of skill that the pros have... so they play with people they know are reliable because it is the only way to have a game where you dont have a clear winner in the first 3 minutes. The only reason I had a chance in hell at playing elite mod was because I had 550 hours of experience from 2009-2010 which meant that I had a relatively small learning curve for Elite mod when I started in late 2014 (otherwise I'd be in the same spot you are).
Other people have given you lots of good advice, all I can say is learn to grow a thick skin on the internet, no sense letting faceless jackasses on the net make you this angry.

I can help learn the basics of the game and explain to concept. So you have a better understanding. I am not the best player out there but I can at least get you to a decent level of play and I don't mind helping you out. My Steam name is the same as in on the forums. I am Central US btw so im not far from your time zone.
