You know, I allways thought Terminators and Dreadnoughts are supposed to be THE super rare and powerful Armour the Imperium got left.
Guess they had even more gigantic ones lieing around for the past millenias without anyone noticing.

Re: New Games Workshop Models
Well i don't like their design at all, but they also don't make sense, there are both terminators and dreds which cover both the support and the super elite infantry for the front or shock assaults, that thing just looks like an impratical fusion of the 2.

I was thinking of getting back into the hobby but then these models appeared and scared me off for another year at least.
Re: New Games Workshop Models
I think they look pretty cool. They must have initiative 8 or something though, so bulky.
EDIT: Initiative 1-2 I mean.

Re: New Games Workshop Models
Whats the point of these things, they completly undermine the concept of Terminators.
Remember? The best, most advanced Armour in the entire Imperium? Guess not anymore.

Re: New Games Workshop Models
Aren't Terminators vastly more experienced warriors anyway? Besides that, the suits seems to be taller then a regular Terminator, leaving him more exposed and can't really manuever as good as a regular Terminator?
Because the way I see it, it seems more of a practical piece of equipment that any Space Marine can use to enhance their battle performance with sheer firepower, whereas they give up some movement.
So the way I see it, the Terminator has these advantages;
- Experienced Space Marines, they're just flat out more cunning & strategical
- They are slightly smaller then the mechanized-suit, making them less of an easy-target
- They are more agile and manuever and can access locations better then your average suit.
Whereas the suit is more along these lines;
- If accessible, can increase the general firepower & durability in a straight-up confrontation
- Does not neccasarily require as such high prestige to be equipped, compared to Terminator armor.

Re: New Games Workshop Models
the centurions are about as retarded looking as the dread knights and probably in a similar spot, stat wise. mostly it looks like another "Go Space Marines!" release. the grav gun is a totally new weapon type and that AA rhino is probably quite good. i wish eldar got something better than the stupid wraithknight. ah well...

Re: New Games Workshop Models
I am definitely not a fan of the centurions. I was already meh about the Tau Riptides, Eldar Wraithknights, and GK Dreadknights, but this attempt by SM to hop on the mecha/exo-suit wagon is just stupid. I wonder what it's statline will be like
Re: New Games Workshop Models
Tactical Dreadnought armor aka Terminator armor can't be produced easily anymore.
It's becoming "lost technology". Due to the resources being drained, etc.
That's why it's only given to the most experienced of SM's.
Since when lost it can't be replaced as easily.
That's why they will go to great lengths just to recollect fallen suits of terminators.
My guess is these suits are the best they have at the moment that mimics terminator armor. From what I can tell they are used as very hard hitting devastators and heavy assault units. Deployed vs the biggest of machines or fortresses.
Lexicanum:
Tactical Dreadnought armor
Centurions
Edit: Forgot this part.
Initiative 8 is even faster than Mephiston, Lord of Death

Err, Shadow Spectres?
http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Shadow_Spectres
On the note on Centurions, I don't know - given the information given, I find the approach quite reasonable. They're not that different from Dreadnought/Terminator armors, they're somewhat of a combination of both. I mean, upgrading rigs/armors and etc, is quite a reasonable approach.
I actually quite like it personally. As long as the reasoning for it's development and deployment makes sense. And from what Riku has said, I'm sort of okay with it.

Re: New Games Workshop Models
i was referring to the recent codex; specters are quite cool, the new fighter bombers are ok, wraithguard with d-scythes, melee weapons, are cool. and that's about it. really, i just wish eldar didn't get the biggest non-titan walker of all; i already despise titans in general and it doesn't really fit. not to mention that they managed to screw the aesthetics up.

Yes of course, derp.
Re: New Games Workshop Models
The only thing I like about the marines is the Grav guns. Hitting on your targets armour save is plain op against monstrous creatures and terminator equivalents. I hope the Tyranid codex is not as bad as this one
Re: New Games Workshop Models
Ugh I don't much like these. It looks like a super clumsy weapon platform (it looks like it can barely walk...) which could be a Devastator thing without overlapping Terminators too much but it looks like there is an Assault version as well. The obvious design reasoning behind this is selling new models to people who already have Marines, Terminators and Dreadnoughts.

Re: New Games Workshop Models
I don't know if you guys have seen the art in the codex depicting the Centurion, but in the art, the Centurion actually looks pretty good. It's like a slightly upscaled cataphractii terminator (before they came Forge World models) combined with the older art depictions of Marneus Calgar in his terminator armor with his Gauntlets of Ultramar. Somehow, the scaling didn't quite end up right in the transition between art and model. The model seems shorter and squatter, proportionally.
On a side note, I prefer the cataphractii terminator art to the Forge World models, and while the cataphractii models are still decent, the Sons of Horus Justaerin terminator models are just amazing. If I had money to finance a Sons of Horus army, if they weren't so overpriced points-wise, and if my favorite SM legion wasn't the Iron Warriors, I would get so many Justaerins.

Re: New Games Workshop Models
Well, there are always alternatives to the models. You could use these guys. They are much cheaper, around the same scale and with some conversion they would look awesome.
Regarding what Lulgrim said, the way they are designed (as a model) doesn't give you the impression that it can do well in close combat.

Re: New Games Workshop Models
Well as expected Centurions are pretty beastly but expensive and slow. Not sure if they'll be seen as worthy over Terminators. Any players here have any insight as to how they'll do?
WARGEAR:
Centurion Assault Squads: Twin-linked flamer (can replace with twin-linked melta for 5 pts/model), ironclad assault launchers, two siege drills.
Centurion Devastator Squads: Twin-linked heavy bolter (can replace with twin-linked lascannon or grav-cannon + grav-amp for 20pts/model), hurricane bolter (can replace with missile launcher with frag + krak for 10 pts/model).
SPECIAL RULES:
And They Shall Know No Fear, Chapter Tactics, Move Through Cover (Centurion Assault Squad only), Slow and Purposeful, Very Bulky.
Decimator Protocols: Centurions can fire up to two weapons each Shooting phase. These weapons must still fire at the same target.
190 pts for 1 Sergeant + 2 Centurions - can include three additional Centurions for 60 pts per model.
Code: Select all
Unit Type: Infantry
Sergeant is Infantry (Character)
WS BS S T W I A Ld Sv
Centurion 4 4 5 5 2 4 1 8 2+
Centurion Sergeant 4 4 5 5 2 4 2 9 2+

Re: New Games Workshop Models
If you want them to be affective you have to take the Lascannon/Missile Launcher, so that is another 20/10 points per model there and they start at 250/220 points minimum. They are too expensive to spam them, and even 1 6-man squad is at 490 points. Quite a lot for only 6 Las shots. You could say take 3-man units instead of 6, but then why not take Devastators?
I think we will see 6-man Centurion Assault squads with a Land Raider. That is 620 points at minimum, so if they don't make it to CC, they are a total waste.

Re: New Games Workshop Models
I always find it hard to predict the meta but I can imagine the ranged variants will see some use since they're the only platform for graviton cannons which appear to be terminator deleters. Can't imagine the close combat variants becoming very popular.
The lack of an invulnerable save, the high points cost, and the fact they're not immune to instant death will hurt them too much to make them a competitive choice i think. One vindicator will make them cry salty tears of death.

Re: New Games Workshop Models
From what I can tell these guys suck immensely.
In assault they would suck and take up way to many points for what they do.
Literately any other sm squad for that amount of points would be better in assaults.
Take them as long range platform?
280 points for 3 TL-lascannons and 3 missiles on 3 models.
I rather have my 2 dev squads with 4 missiles each with 1 guy shooting at BS5
(hitting on 2+ instead of 3+) as long as the sergeant lives
for 260 points on 5 models per squad tyvm.
Not to mention I can actually put these guys on 2 different spots and depending on terrain on a very high spot in cover where the Centurions would not be able to stand.
As long as these guys don't offer you skyfire they are not worth their points.
@Hivemon
Gravitation cannons seem to suck to me. They are only useful in some MU's and vs certain units. Melta will in my eyes always be the best weapon.
Or plasmas in some chapters. Plasma are also not dependent on the enemy.
And when is the last time you saw ranged terminators on the field? If any it's assault terminators in a land raider. Where you first have to shoot the land raider down.
And when they are out their 3+ invul shields will surely keep them save ^^
Nothing a 115 points vindicator can't do way better. Large blast and all :p
Heck you have 2 vindi's for 230 points.
