LF suggestions from beginners

Postby Ace of Swords » Thu 16 Jun, 2016 3:08 pm

I've been writing a general guide for DoW2 Retribution: Elite mod in my spare time and it's somewhat half done, I'm however looking for suggestions on what to add in it, so far I've covered the basic build orders, heroes and wargears for sm,eldar, orks and chaos, I will probably also add how the interaction of different armors and damage types work and the values for those.

If new people want to know something, something that is currently unclear about the game write it down in this thread and I'll add it in the guide, whenever is mechanics, wargears stuff that's more specific for a faction.

Keep in mind I'm writing this for new people, which means people who have just picked up the game and need some basic guide lines into the multiplayer.

Capping tecs.

1-) If you play with Plague Champion, send your heretics to a further away resource point to cap while PC caps a point from their back. So they can both finish the buisness in the same time.

2-) Sneak caps in team games are game changing. Just lost a match because of that today. Scout, Storm Troopers, Rangers infiltration and stuff.

3-) Capping ideas for Calderis. Suggestion for famous fisty PC build, P-Devs for protecting mid from being capped. And also, weapon knockback vs ability knocback immunitys. They are importent here too.

4-) WSE capping. Nuff said.

Seems a good idea, I wouldn't go much into the specifics but I guess it can work explaining which builds need more or less power/req, forgot to mentition I'll try to cover all game modes except FFA/TFFA/annihilation.

I'm sure people here, myself included, would love to see the guide to offer feedback on it.

Some high level topics I wish I found out earlier:
Retreat:. Importance of retreating, mechanical effects, interactions with abilities, some notes on strategy of when to do it
Economy: Reinforcing is always better then replacing, req income decreases with more units
Capture points: De-capturing takes half as long as capturing, req points mature over time, stay stealthed during decap, never blob cap
Stealth: Honestly, I still can't keep track of what modifiers are active when

what I've done so far is a basic rundown of builds for 1v1s and 2v2s/3s for 4 races out of 6 (GKs will be done after I'm done with the base races) their heroes and their wargears, if you'd like to see anything included or anything that you think might be useful or that you want/wanted to know just write it down.

Having no clue how your tutorial is structured or knowing its content, I think it would be a good idea to compare yours with the one that Codex and Floid have already written to avoid redundancy.

Would be nice regarding individual matchups for each faction. Which Commander works best vs what, what unit choices would be redundant etc.

I'd quite like to see something about playing well with your team mates.

I see a lot of good players using single units to make up for gaps in their team mates composition while moving their own army around too. Also choosing how and when to push with team mates, keeping map control and using zoning, nukes and mini-nukes together effectively. Seems like their are a lot of players who aren't particularly amazing when they play on their own but really know how to play effectively as a team and it wins them games. Little bit complex i'll admit but still important to know.

Revive your allied heroes when you can. If I had a blacklist of players, it would be populated by those who idle their hero a screen's distance away from your downed hero.

Use the chat to relay important information, and read the damn chat yourself.

On long, thin maps like argus, don't respond to a gen bash by slogging across the map to your allies lane, only to be too late to save the gens and leave your own lane vulnerable, do a counter-bash.

Everyone who posted so far, valid points, I'll see how I can fit all of this without making it a mess of information.
